Best Encryption Tool for Gmail

We turned to Virtru because we needed to send sensitive information via email. It had to be done in a way that was easy for both the sender and recipient and ideally within the confines of our corporate Gmail setup. The initial rollout was just for a couple of departments, and then it expanded to all departments needing the capability.

Encrypting email.
Sending files.
Logging.

Cons

Cost.
Re-authenticating periodically.

Of all the products out there that integrate with Google, we found Virtru to be the most user-friendly for both our users and the recipients. At the same time, its logging capabilities provide the trail we need for sensitive information. This is one tool for us that has generally been "setup and forget" which helps with the I.T. Dept workload.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Virtru to encrypt sensitive emails in a few different use cases. We can let the sender manually encrypt the email, or based on keywords in the email we suggest the user encrypt the email or we auto (force) encrypt the email. Virtru solution helps us to gain DLP capabilities in a simple and easy way.

Pros

Email encryption without installing or exchange keys with the recipient.
Email DLP that is easy to configure and maintain.
Application Gateway that encrypts email sent directly from SaaS application (ex. Zendesk, SalesForce).
Protect attachment with restriction like time, print, and copy.

Cons

Native Google Docs file encryption should be improved, it's working great in Google Drive but only for files that are not Google native.

Likelihood to Recommend

Virtru is well suited for cloud base IT environments that can push the solution from a central management system (MDM). Also, it can fit companies who would like to get the solution (or start testing it) for groups in the company and not all the users. It might not fit for old fashion industries that need to be in compliance with regulations that force email encryption with a key exchange between the sender and recipient.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our entire team uses Virtru to securely encrypt our email and our sensitive financial files. We use it internally as well as for communicating with our portfolio companies and investors. Virtru seamlessly integrates with our G Suite accounts and is much easier to use that traditional secure file systems or password protected email messaging tools. The Virtru team also offers a powerful API that we can use to build their encryption into software tools that we build or use internally in our work.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a physical therapy clinic we need to have e-mail encryption end to end to transmit information to patients in a HIPAA compliant manner. Virtru does this and will sign a Business Associates Agreement (BAA) with us which is necessary for HIPAA compliance.

Pros

Simple plugin to chrome and gmail client
Lets me know when I am about to send information that I have not yet encrypted that should be.
Patients find it easy to use their end

Cons

Occasionally gets stuck if I attache a file before setting email to be encrypted.

We work in healthcare and we have to make sure that all communications are encrypted so we use Virtru across the whole organization.

Pros

we use Google Suite and Virtru is fully integrated with Google Suite .
we do have the option to use Virtru when needed and turn it off when not need it.
sometime a user might forget to encrypt, If they do Virtru will suggest encrypting Depending on the Contents.
using it is browser independent.
Very user Friendly on the receiving end, if we are communicating with a company that does not use Virtru.

better integrated into mobile OS(IOS,Android)
cheaper bundles
