Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Allscripts is used across all providers in all 500 centers in the US.

Pros

Ease of monitoring reports from all providers for each provider
Ease of copying last report into current on
Ease of deleting report when starting the wrong type of report

Cons

Sometimes hard to find functionality due to complicated menus
Complication from having too many features
Lack of ability to send messages to other providers associated with same patient.

I have been using Allscripts Practice Management at Concentra for about 2.5 years after they acquired US Healthworks. It has been a revelation so much so that I forget what we used at USHW. I know that the system we had was not comprehensive enough that we had to still use paper files and we could not access any other providers' reports. Allscripts allows a group practice to access every report, imaging, and employer communcations for each patient. It's very powerful for a large multi-center medical practice. It would be too complicated for smaller groups.

Pros

Easy to combine data and reports.
Submit claims for reimbursement.
Edit and review patient data in patient accounts.

Cons

Some of the "canned" reports are wrong. We have reported issues to Allscripts multiple times and they never were interested in fixing the problem.
The work and total RVU values that are assigned to each CPT code don't have a reference for the year so we have to keep changing them every year and overwrite the old ones.
There is no option to load facility and non-facility values for total RVUs.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is a good and reliable software. There have been some issues with reporting and security concerns but overall the software is reliable and good as a short-term and midterm investment. The company, however, doesn't understand that they are a data company and I am concerned if they have a future in the long run. I would be very careful to invest in it if you were planning to use this long term.
