Veeam Data Platform is primarily used for comprehensive data protection, backup, and disaster recovery across diverse environments including virtualized, physical, and cloud workloads. Organizations leverage it to address data loss and ensure business continuity, with reviewers consistently highlighting its ease of use and reliability in core backup and recovery functions. In TrustRadius reviews, users widely adopt application-centric recovery, immutable storage, and instant recovery capabilities.

Reviewers also appreciate the platform's cloud capabilities for offsite backup storage and disaster recovery, contributing to faster recovery times and ransomware protection. However, a significant portion of reviewers (78%) note challenges with reporting capabilities, citing a need for more detailed failure logs and simpler compliance reporting. The platform's initial setup and overall complexity can also present a learning curve for some administrators, and some users raise concerns about licensing costs.

Veeam Backup: best for virtual infrastructure.

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are backing up our whole virtual infrastructure around the world. With Veeam we can use several other devices to save our backups, like tape or external ransomware-proofed storage devices. Even saving backup in the cloud via "Veeam Cloud Connector" is possible and not bad. You can just create real backup jobs to certain devices and then copy the backup over to another media without touching your live infrastructure again.

Pros

  • Application-based restores are great & quick.
  • I like the idea of having several states of backups on different devices.
  • Copying existing backups to different types of media without touching the actual infrastructure is great.

Cons

  • Creating different types of jobs sometimes gives you a headache.
  • The way of creating a retention policy is very hard to understand at the beginning.

Likelihood to Recommend

I have used some other backup products in the past (like Symantec BackupExec, DELL vRanger, Acronis...) but none of them is as good as veeam is. The guys from Veeam are really doing a great job developing more and more features everytime they release a new major update. So I really like the product and its features (even when its harder to understand as with some other products, because you have way more features here), but I dont like the support. Luckily we have a great IT regional supplier who is helping us everytime we're having issues using Veeam, but every now and then they can't solve issues, so we have to open cases with Veeam. Unfortunately I cant tell one single case which was solved by them... Bottom line: 1. the product is great 2. get a training when starting to use it 3. most important: get a great IT supplier having Veeam experience or even better being a Veeam partner.

Veeam is Awesome - Has helped us clean up backups for our entire org

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used to have a very fragmented data backup situation. Our desktops were not being backed up regularly, and our servers would use Backup Exec to a tape library. We weren't sure if our backups even succeeded with Backup Exec, and the cost to store large amounts of data with Backup Exec were high. We have an old install of Veaam for backing up certain VMs, but it had been neglected and the version was very old.

We decided to turn off Backup Exec completely, and invest in a subscription to Veeam so we could upgrade to the latest version. We now have all desktops and server backing up daily, and have integrated our tape library backups with Veeam, which are also automated now. We also have monitoring going with VeaamOne so we know when backups fail and can't react.

Pros

  • Automates Backups
  • Provides visibility to backup health and storage appliance space
  • Writes data to tape for offsite storage

Cons

  • UI changes frequently...sometimes hard to find where features have moved
  • Didn't eject tape after writing to tape library...this has now been fixed

Likelihood to Recommend

It's well suited to any environment where you have many devices requiring backup and would also like off-site redundancy. It may not be suitable for very small environments where the overhead to manage the system may not be justified for only a few machines.

Veeam - A powerful tool so you don't have to be

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Here we use Veeam to give us a powerful backup solution. We utilize an on-premises solution and also have Azure backups through Veeam. This product is quite amazing and allows you to have peace of mind within your organization. I have roughly 30 something VM's that are backed up nightly and never have issues with this product. I came from a few other environments where I had hundreds of VM's and multiple locations all with Veeam. It was fun to learn and see how it scales at that size. I'm fairly confident that this product can scale to any size company with great efficiency. I even use it at home in my own lab environment and it works amazing there as well. Granted I have expensive hardware tossed at it, but either way, this is one awesome product. Recommend to everyone in need of a backup solution. If you are broke, they have a community edition you can use for 10 machines at the least! Couldn't ask for a better product.

Pros

  • Scales to any size environment.
  • Works with almost any network or cloud device.
  • Allows many levels of automation.
  • Gives an organization peace of mind that their stuff works.
  • Amazing customer support.
  • Crushes every product out there for backups. There IS nothing better.

Cons

  • Sometimes different backup methods using different tiers can be challenging. Typically have to work with support on that as the documentation is pretty good, but it's also too much at times. I think they'd do better if they did more visual examples. It's their product, they'd benefit.
  • Every now and then it doesn't clean snapshots from VMware and then keeps creating them until you can't anymore. I would highly suggest they work right with VMware to fix that. Been a problem for long enough.
  • The last area Veeam can improve is being able to cook and clean for me. If Veeam could do that, I surely wouldn't need to waste my money on an expensive wife and kids.. Those things are overrated anyway, all they do is eat your food and complain. Veeam could definitely beat that if it made food, just sayin..

Likelihood to Recommend

I worked for a publicly traded company and they didn't have ANYTHING for backups. I was blown away and could not believe that. All they did was take manual, not even automated, snapshots in their AWS tenants and Azure tenants. This company literally had themselves in the worst spot ever if they got hit with an attack. This was one company that could have greatly benefitted from Veeam. I tried to push it to them, but ultimately I ended up leaving as there was too much else not right there..

An excellent product with flexible licencing.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We recently moved from another product to veeam, as a small company we were looking for an affordable and robust disaster recovery solution. The pricing on our previous solution had become an issue for us. We use the product to protect several windows workstations and 35 hyper-v guests.

We found the initial set up to be very easy and it is simple to test backups to ensure confidence in the product

Pros

  • Protecting virtualised workloads
  • Test restores to verify backups
  • Flexible Licencing

Cons

  • Clearer error messages when there are issues.
  • Documentation could be fuller

Likelihood to Recommend

Perfect for virtualised environments although you can protect workstations and physical servers.
For protecting NAS the solution works well but pricing is less exceptional.

For those who need to verify backups regularly the test restores are very easy and give confidence in the product.

The licencing model gives good flexibility as business requirements change.

Veeam Backup & Replication - market leader with excellent customer support.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

While working in IT/OT industry for 20+ years I have experience working with a number of backup software vendors - Arcserve, BackupExec, Netbackup, etc. I found Veeam Backup & Replication is different from pretty much every perspective (in a good way =). First - customer support is on another. Starting with extensive, constantly updated Knowledgebase and best practice library, followed by huge community and forum 24/7 monitored by Veeam Backup & Replication employees and great, local to you, professional support. If you open the case you can make sure person assigned to the case listen you, trying to understand the problem and even level 1 support can do more then level 3 for some vendors. Second - approach to software releases. Last v12 being polished for longer then a year and I do appreciate it as I can be sure I don't need to wait for half a year after release waiting for all initial issues will be fixed. Last but not least - functionality of the product in most of the cases covering all possible DR scenarios you can imagine.

Pros

  • Workload replication
  • Immutable backups
  • SAN integration

Cons

  • Windows Failover Cluster backups
  • Flexibility in Tape backups
  • Publish Powershell modules in Powershell Gallery

Likelihood to Recommend

From my point of view it may suit any scenario - from tiny business with free Community edition to Enterprises with Enterprise Plus version

Best DR Suite I have used!

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have found Veeam to be the most comprehensive backup & replication system on the market. Whether you want to have a simple backup, running under legacy DR methods, or you want a modern backup scheme that is fully automated -- Veeam can do it all! We have recovered from a complete disaster in very little time thanks to Veeam. I would highly recommend it!

Pros

  • Simple recovery via bootable ISO
  • Tiered storage and the 3-2-1 model
  • Intuitive, easy to understand interface

Cons

  • Maybe some example videos/tutorials on more advanced backup schemes

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited for any scenario. Just like any other product, the only barrier to entry may be the price.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our company have all our backup and replication through it. From VMs to files to computer backups. We also have replication setup to our 2nd location. We need real scenario DR testing.

Support from Veeam Backup & Replication could improve a little. There are no check on company's usage.

Pros

  • VMs and Physical backup
  • Replications
  • SQL Recovery to instances, databases, etc...
  • Backup to the cloud

Cons

  • Follow-up of new implementation
  • Support to issues

Likelihood to Recommend

A couple of years back, I had to restore a table within an instance of a database. I was able to do it with the SurBackup. It was very convenient and nice to do.

Veeam is a great backup option

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Using Veeam backup and replication addresses the lack of company wide backups including the backing up of important information such as servers that hosts sql databases and the company ERP systems. Veeam is also used at multiple locations and allows me to provide effortless backups to various desktops as well

Pros

  • Provides backups of physical servers
  • Provides protection of ransomware
  • Ease of use

Cons

  • Integrated online backup storage

Likelihood to Recommend

When i first started my position with my current employer and was looking over protocols and procedures. I realized that nobody previously had considered any type of backup for any of the devices or servers i found Veeam to provide much needed backups for physical servers that the company needed

Great backup software.

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Veeam Backup and Replication to ensure that there is at all times a secure back up of data within the company. I currently use the Veeam software on multiple servers, and although I have not had to use it yet, I feel I would have no issues restoring the data in a timely manner.

Pros

  • Excellent customer support.
  • Easy to navigate software.
  • numerous backup options.

Cons

  • I would like to see Veeam have its own online backup repository instead of relying on a 3rd party.

Likelihood to Recommend

I feel that Veeam is best used for companies that are in need of reliable and safe backup software. Veeam would be great for any type of system failure, along with any type of malicious ransomware. Veeam is able to be used on multi-platforms along with using any additional licensing on PCs.
