UserTesting serves as a primary platform for organizations to conduct comprehensive usability testing and qualitative research, enabling teams to validate product design assumptions and gather rapid user feedback. In TrustRadius reviews, its participant recruitment capabilities are widely praised, with four of six reviewers highlighting its ability to source diverse and appropriate panelists. Reviewers also value its intuitive design for study setup and robust feature set for insights.
The platform significantly accelerates product development cycles and enhances strategic decision-making by providing quick user insights. However, some reviewers, two of six, expressed concerns regarding the authenticity and professionalism of the participant pool, noting instances of misrepresentation. The scheduling system was also described as clunky. Despite these points, UserTesting is seen as an effective tool for integrating user voices into product strategy.

Our UX/UI team uses UserTesting regularly to conduct research studies. We have used different features, from unmoderated tests like A/B testing or prototype tests to live user interviews. We enjoy the pool of candidates that are found within a few minutes of the test launch. Why do we use it? To talk to users within our industry to understand their needs, motivations, and expectations when using products like ours. We believe this tool is currently the best option on the market to combine all of our research efforts. The only struggle is the limited amount of pre-screener questions and the limitations within Canada (provinces/terretories).
Pros
Intuitive software
Easy onboarding
Fast participant recruitment
Easy scheduling
Cons
Confidentiality agreement toggle - Name might be confusing when used for other documents like NDAs or Privacy Policies
Recruitment in Canada - balanced demographic within provinces/ territories

Any research efforts are met perfectly with this tool. We can do moderated or unmoderated sessions and utilize the transcript for quotes. For live sessions like user interviews, we also like the option to have a note taker in the call that the participant is unaware off. We believe this created less stress on the participant. As mentioned before, the only problem we are facing as a Canadian company is the pre screening process. We would like to have participants represented from within all our provinces and territories. This causes us to launch multiple tests and then reject/accept a certain province for each one.
We’re using UserTesting.com to test features of our updated app and our website designs. We tend to use it in a product development department currently. It allows us to identify unseen issues early without risking brand reputation. The tool helps us to identify unforeseen usability issues and also serves to validate our assumptions of user adoption and behaviors.
Pros
Exports findings to a usable Excel file.
Marks video key areas and facilitates tags and note-taking from user videos and video clip creation.
Can upload our own videos and take notes and make clips.
Cons
The “folders” are not well designed for organizing tests and drafts.
You need to email support to delete tests that have started (no way to delete past tests.
Note tags seem to be global and so can get messy. It would be great if there was a way to manage, rename, and delete tags, as these add up. It would also be an improvement if you could make families of tags or keep them isolated by projects in some way so that you don’t always see tags from every test.
The formatting of test questions uses strange symbols and is inconsistent. Would benefit from a WYSIWYG standard editor.
Would be nice to be able to allow us to easily add a pass, fail, difficulty, or not applicable for each task.

It’s a good tool but takes effort to plan, test, and review results. Results do come in fairly quickly (a matter of a couple of hours). It’s not set and forget, you need to plan your tests and interpret the results.
