I use it whenever I need quick user feedback to a certain redesign, or to current designs. Their feedback help me support some necessary improvements, and represent decisive feedback sometimes.

Highlight reels could have more editing features
The note snipped have a sharing option so people go there specifically and read the note
Overlay notes on video and not before video

UserTesting is empowering our organization to give users a voice. We are integrating their voice into our strategic priorities and it's helping us shape decisions that affect them. I conduct a variety of tests including persona development interviews, prototyping tests, IA (information architecture) tests like card sorting, or generative research where we just want to talk to users and understand their world.

Pros

Panelist recruitment and diversity of panelists.
Flexible incentive structure.
Breadth of testing modes from simple to complex.

Cons

Navigation and site structure is confusing.
Managing test folders is cumbersome.
Questionable user consent and privacy policies.

Likelihood to Recommend

UserTesting's strengths are its panelists, flexible incentive structure, and breadth of testing modes. I like that they push for the latest and greatest features that users are asking for. As the platform has changed to adopt user preferences, the navigation and site structure has diminished. It can be difficult to know where to find tools, there are inconsistencies in test organization/folder structure, and some features are just buried behind a "clean" UI. The tool suits power users well and I'd like to have easier access to powerful features.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Im a user researcher at Conde Nast. It is our principle tool to connect with audiences across our brands. Primarily it is used for usability studies, interviews or mixed method testing. Both moderated and unmoderated. It does have a secondary use for surveys although this is less reliable given the wide scope of the pool of participants.

Pros

Its incredibly easy to use and customise screeners or tasks for usability testing
Intuitive survey construction and set up
Useful secondary task tools like A/B testing, card sorts, impression tests etc

Cons

Quality of participants- its clear some fake their IP addresses and are not in the country you have screened for
The AI analytics are not the most functional from what I have seen, stick to what you're good at?
I find the scheduling for live sessions clunky to use, the calendar interface is very glitchy

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited to its original purpose- usability testing and interviews. This can be performed at pace, given the large audience (although our brands are very well known so this should not be a barrier) and there is a decent level of task customisation when conducting unmoderated testing.

Its less appropriate for survey where you are looking to capture genuine intent/behaviour, even with screeners the data skews more positively than onsite survey, makes me question the quality of survey respondents.

We use UserTesting to validate our assumptions on a product design. To make better decisions to improve the user experience and enhance our product usability, and to create more user-friendly designs. This process helps us reduce the risk of proposing the wrong product design and increase customer satisfaction by aligning the product more closely with what the user wants and expects.

Pros

Easiness of the Recruitment process.
Easiness of building Questionnaire and Survey.
Great number of features that helps gathering insights.

Cons

I wish there were a better way to export the insights, rather than exporting the data in Excel.
An example would be to have a list of pre-made reports to choose from.

Likelihood to Recommend

Creating user testing, interviews, and surveys is quite easy. You can include many types of questions, as well as tree testing and Card sorting. On the other hand, exporting the data is still a very basic process.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use UserTesting for conducting qualitative research with both our customers and non-customers. We run moderated and unmoderated interviews, usability tests and surveys to test prototype designs, get user feedback on their experiences with our products, and understand our customer pain points in order to improve our product offerings and services. By using this tool, we are able to quickly create the test or surveys and gather insights almost instantly once we get feedback which helps with our turnaround time for our projects.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are looking to run moderated interviews, usability testing or just gathering quick survey results, UserTesting would be a good fit whether you are a beginner company or a well established one. I think all companies should conduct research to better their products and services and to understand their consumers and UserTesting makes it very easy to do so. They also provide lots of resources to learn and personal help if needed.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use UserTesting primarily for classic UX Research. A team of UX researchers and UX designers utilizes the software for prototype testing, generative research, interviews, validation, and other purposes. We use the unmoderated, moderated, and survey features. We work primarily with banking customers. For the most part, we are testing mobile and app financial experiences with our consumer banking group.

Pros

General market recruits (non-specified users).
Payment to participants.
Automatic email invites for scheduled research sessions.
Customer success managers are well trained and responsive.
Regular check ins to answer questions.
Updates to roadmaps.
Release of new features.

Cons

Quality of participant pool - many are career testers, and many are untruthful. Since sessions are auto-scheduled if the screener is past, you often don't know until they've completed the test. Allow double screening or be more stringent in removing users from the platform.
Unfinished products - focus on making one product the best it can be before moving on to a new one. Unmoderated testing is still missing features (randomization of 3 or more prototypes, etc.)

Likelihood to Recommend

When working with general market customers. For example, a person between the ages of 30 and 60 who has a checking account and a mortgage with their primary bank, as long as they don't get too specific about a particular bank.

User Testing is a tool used for conducting user research, used primarily within the Customer Experience team, where we identify usability issues and potential improvements for a website or app during different phases of the website development. Business problem: conduct tests, recruit participants for testing, research management, etc. Scope: unmoderated usability testing, moderated testing (interview), survey, participant recruitment.

The video snippet feature is not as user friendly.
Need to improve the way of saving participants in the a saved network.
Allow editing/removing screener filter after launching a test.

UserTesting saves us lots of time recruiting participants from the User Testing panel; it has a large number of participants you could recruit from and usually gets filled very quickly. Sometimes, for some, short tests took less than half a day to fill, which we highly appreciated. Hopefully, in the future, the video snippets and analysis feature will be easier to use.

I use UserTesting's unmoderated, moderated, and quant functions. I use unmoderated to run new products or ideas by contributors and gather feedback on how much I like them and what we could improve. I use the quant for quick and simple surveys to gather feedback on products as well.

Pros

Easy and fast to find contributors, recruiting is done in a day or two.
Contributors provide quality, thoughtful responses.
Customer support is quick to respond.
Easy to swap out bad contributors.

Cons

I've experienced some bugs with the platform. For example, I've had some contributor videos not upload and had to replace them.
The quant tool is very basic and doesn't provide many advanced features.

Likelihood to Recommend

UserTesting makes finding respondents super quick and easy. I'm always amazed at how quickly I can fully recruit for an unmoderated or moderated test and how fast contributors are to upload their videos. Contributors are also well-trained to answer a prompt in its entirety and always provide thoughtful answers.
