TriNet functions as a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and HRIS, primarily addressing human resources, payroll, and benefits management for organizations, particularly those without dedicated in-house HR staff. In TrustRadius reviews, it is widely used for handling payroll, personnel tax documentation, and administering employee benefits, a use case cited by 81% of reviewers. Reviewers frequently commend its responsive customer support and user-friendly platform, which simplifies navigation for both employees and administrators.
While the platform simplifies new employee onboarding and improves HR compliance, reviewers note areas for improvement. Concerns include customer service accessibility and knowledge, payroll platform issues like account mapping and tax communication, and challenges with reporting features. Overall, TriNet offers a mixed impact, streamlining some HR functions while introducing complexities in others.
Pros
Responsive and knowledgeable customer support staff
User-friendly and easy-to-navigate portal for employees and administrators
Thorough and straightforward new employee onboarding process
Access to better and more affordable employee benefit packages
Improved HR compliance adherence
Cons
Inconsistent customer service responsiveness and knowledge
Payroll platform issues including account mapping and tax communication
As a nonprofit, we used TriNet to manage our employee information, onboard employees, and provide access to benefits. We also have launched our performance evaluation through TriNet for the first time this year, and have found success through the platform. My HR Manager and I now use The Wing to learn more about the TriNet platform and to connect with other business professionals.
Pros
training for using platform
easy to set up performance evaluations
provide engagement survey options for organizations
learn about how we can best be supported
Cons
offering tutorials/training for setting up reports in TriNet to analyze data
ensuring consistent clear updates to PTO - allowing HR Authorizers to check current rates for levels of employees to ensure it aligns with our internal rates/communications
speed of follow up
provide more options on the performance review to allow for different rating systems

TriNet helped us set up and launch our performance evaluation process this past year and continued to show up when we had multiple questions. TriNet also offers a way to access all the information we need in an easy way through the dashboard feature. Finally, TriNet's secure platform helps build trust with our employees as they submit personal and professional data.
For our organization, TriNet is helping a lot with the heavy lifting when it comes to payroll, taxes, and benefits for employees across the U.S. It’s a solid choice for managing these complex processes.
Pros
Their response time is quick and efficient
They are really efficient at troubleshoot problems
They have a great website, its very user friendly for both employees and those managing the account
Cons
Setting up the payroll account mapping to sync with Quickbooks- it was not very straightforward and we had to do many corrections and adjustments following the initial setup
payroll adjustments not always very intuitive

TriNet is great at helping when it comes to payroll, taxes, and benefits for employees across the U.S. It’s a solid choice for managing these complex processes. We have employees in various states, so its been extremly beneficial to have an experienced company like TriNet to assist us with staying in compliance. It has allowed our team to focus on other areas that would have been other wise been consumed with managing benefits and taxes in accordance to all the different state laws.

We have recently onboarded with TriNet and I could cry from happiness at how much easier this has made things.
Onboarding was a breeze, super organized and we had the support of the TriNet team every step of the way. We have a team of 20 hybrid staff and the remote onboarding has been a challenge.
The part that I am most excited about is the hiring/applicant tracking section. Hiring through this platform is a game changer - everything in one place, super easy to navigate and view resumes etc.
Pros
Onboarding
Response Time
HR/Compliance
Cons
Creating Reports
Webinars More frequently/different time
Expenses- staff can connect business credit card without having banking login

Very well suited to streamline all HR, payroll, expense, Time Off and Benefits all in one place. Love the extras and perks. Lots of opportunity for development/webinars. Love the Wing Community!
We use TriNet as our primary HR platform, benefits management source, and payroll company. TriNet serves as an outsourced, dedicated HR manager/department, eliminating our need to hire specifically for that role. With only ten employees in our organization, it is a practical way for us to balance the needs and resources of our organization.
Pros
Portal is easy to navigate to find benefits, paystubs, some reporting, and
Hiring function is helpful in storing communication templates, job postings, candidate communications, etc.
Pay/Money tab is thorough and makes finding paystubs, pay calendar, etc. quick and easy
Cons
The PTO balance chart is confusing and inaccurate (at least for organizations like ours who do not require accrual before time is used/taken).
The expense management is inconsistent with and outside of the primary portal making it difficult to find/submit requests for those who do not use it often.
A dedicated service representative should be easier to connect with and have more capabilities than sending requests to other departments.
The cost structure is ever-changing. The service fee is quoted at a per month per employee rate but charged on every payroll transaction (including corrections, etc.). New fees are introduced mid-year, mid-contract with very little notice and no practical option to avoid (or plan for).
There are many features being invested in and billed to us that we will never need or benefit from. Perhaps there is a way to offer us certain features of the platform without the added costs of areas we don't use or need.

We've been with TriNet for about two years now. Our first (almost) year would have resulted in a 10 rating here. However, we got hit with a technology enhancement fee about 10 months in, then rates went up with our renewal. Some additional interactions with the TriNet team on, granted, not super common issues really just has us on the fence on whether TriNet is the right partner for us. The platform meets our needs on a day-to-day basis but whenever there is something out of the ordinary, it is quite difficult to get prompt resolution.

We use TriNet for all of our HR and payroll needs. We manage everything from holidays and time off to our annual performance review. Not having to worry about the nuances of the HR function have been invaluable for our small non-profit organization.
Pros
Manages the payroll and general HR needs seamlessly
The Wing Community is a great place to check on best practices and advice from other HR teams
The amount of information and direction that TriNet manages on our behalf related to annual transition has been fantastic!
Cons
As a company owner or admin, the platform can be klunky - and there are a number of different platforms to interact with. It's not always clear where to go for what outside of the main platform (which is pretty good).
The help function is OK. Sometimes that articles in response to questions are old. I've gotten in the habit of just going straight to the Help chat instead of the FAQs or articles.

Fantastic for a smaller (or any size really) company that wants to operate in a more lean fashion from an operations perspective, and let someone else manage HR needs. Also, if your company has employees that reside in various states or who work remotely, TriNet is incredibly helpful for that. Also, the diversity of healthcare options based on location is genuinely helpful to us and our staff so that we make sure they have choices.
TriNet is the HRIS system for our organization. TriNet is utilized for all things payroll and employee management for our organization. This allows our organization to have additional Human Resources support for many Human Resource aspects, especially when it comes to ensuring compliance within various different states across the United States.
Pros
Providing Resources
Compliance Matters
Live Trainings
Cons
Adding special PTO policies
Being able to arrange/customize your TriNet dashboard
Ability to print an org chart legibly
Likelihood to Recommend
We have one special circumstance PTO policy that is not able to be fully tracked within TriNet so this particular one has to be manually tracked. It would be nice to have a way to see a truer employee view so that I can help assist our employees. TriNet time is incredibly slow. Having the PTO balances update more real time rather than with payroll would be nice.
We use TriNet as a solution for the payroll and benefit needs of our small and remote-based non-profit. The team at TriNet has helped us manage our business and well as offered a dynamic and easy-to-use platform for our team.
Pros
HR Compliance
Payroll Processing
Benefits Management
Cons
Cost
Some reporting and management features are lacking
Likelihood to Recommend
Nice option for basic payroll and benefits. Team finds the platform easy to use. More options coming online for reporting and tracking. Cost is a bit prohibitive.
TriNet is our payroll processor, HRIS, health benefits broker, 401k plan admin, and more. We're a small non-profit and they provide a lot of the back office payroll support and expansive benefits (health, commuter benefits, supplemental insurance, and more) that would be difficult for us to provide on our own.
Pros
Payroll processing
Customer support for employee/employer questions
Easy to use platform
HR/payroll reports and analytics
Cons
Better timekeeping function (we integrate with external vendor for that)
Likelihood to Recommend
Overall TriNet is a strong PEO and platform. My biggest complaint has to do with pricing. Their service fees can go up significantly from year to year. While less in their control, the annual increases of health insurance rates vary wildly, making it hard to plan from a budgetary perspective. We also get no insight into how increases are calculated.

We use it for payroll, benefits management, department of labor compliance, and expense management. For all of these, it covers 100% of our needs in these areas.
Pros
They offer outstanding rates on health plans and many other benefit plans.
Payroll is easy to manage.
Customer service is very responsive.
Cons
Expense management could be improved upon. We use a state bank for credit cards, and we were unable to link our credit card accounts directly. I have a workaround, but it means manually uploading the charges. Also, in this particular area, the support is not the best.
Also in expense management, while it has many fields for you to enter information, some of those don't show up on the reports.
Likelihood to Recommend
TriNet is perfect for a smaller business or nonprofits that can't get competitive rates for health care. I can't really speak to larger businesses as I don't have comparison data, but even when we used a PEO in the past, we still were paying high rates. The savings were almost enough to offset the cost of having a PEO vs just a payroll service, but our employees appreciate the personal savings as well, as we were able to cover a larger portion of the cost due to the price difference. Specifically, our rates for most of our employees were cut in about half.
