TriNet serves manufacturing firms as a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), centralizing critical HR functions like payroll, benefits administration, and compliance. This allows organizations with lean administrative teams or without dedicated in-house HR staff to offload complexities and focus on core production. In TrustRadius reviews, its foundational utility in managing payroll and benefits for a diverse workforce is widely noted, with 4 of 5 reviewers highlighting its HRIS and support for employee management.

While some reviewers experienced responsive phone support for urgent queries, concerns arose regarding overall customer service and the efficacy of new hire onboarding, which can disrupt production. Payroll accuracy also presented issues for 2 of 5 reviewers, including tax filing problems, and some found the platform increased administrative time rather than reducing it. Manufacturing reviewers report a mixed impact, balancing compliance benefits against operational friction.

  • Centralized HR functions for lean manufacturing teams.
  • Offloading complex benefits administration for diverse workforces.
  • Support for HR compliance with industry-specific labor and safety regulations.
  • Responsive phone support for urgent HR and payroll queries impacting production continuity.
  • Inconsistent customer service responsiveness and expertise, potentially disrupting production schedules.
  • Chaotic new hire onboarding processes, impeding swift integration into production roles.
  • Payroll accuracy issues, including tax filings, for complex manufacturing compensation structures.
  • Potential to increase administrative time, diverting resources from core production activities.

Great transition for a small company that needs support but not all tools

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently use Trinet to manage our payroll, employee benefits and 401(k) options. We also track employee documents for historical purposes and compensation changes.
We were in a position where our previous provider was changing to a subscription model which outpriced our business from their offering. Trinet was able to find a solution that matched our needs, pricing and provided a benefit savings for the company and employees as a whole.

Pros

  • Integration
  • Payroll Management and Organization
  • Training

Cons

  • 401(k) details during the initial conversations with sales, due to some confusion we had to make a few corrections that caused delays for us

Likelihood to Recommend

The support team is very kind and helpful, they care and it is clear they want to help you.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are a small business and we utilize TriNet as our payroll and benefits provider. The business problems TriNet addresses and does the heavy lifting for us is in compliance, both with payroll and benefits. With every state having different leaves available, plus the interaction between state and federal leave, TriNet helps us maintain our compliance with those. We do not need a dedicated payroll headcount because we have TriNet to take care of all the state and local tax set ups and compliance, as well as the reporting to all of the states and the federal government. The are also our first resource when a question comes up from employees.

Pros

  • Leave compliance.
  • Payroll compliance.
  • Government reporting.

Cons

  • Explanation of issues or reasons behind why policies are the way they are.
  • Communication during peak payroll processing times.

Likelihood to Recommend

Whenever there is an important issue, TriNet is available and willing to help. This includes payroll emergencies, employee relations emergencies (when there are different policy aspects to consider), and their user interface is easy to use by our employees.

Ease and accessibility with TriNet

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use TriNet to assist us with all human resource issues, payroll processing and HR training. The use of TriNet has streamlined all our processes that we need to do for Human Resources. Submitting payroll is simple and they have mistake prevention. They do this by allowing changes for a small window of time after submitting payroll. The resources and training keep me up to date on everything from new laws to solving issues that arise.

Pros

  • Education
  • Payroll
  • Human Resource Issues
  • Customer Service

Cons

  • More SHRM training would be useful
  • Maybe some expanded hours
  • More educational resources and opportunities

Likelihood to Recommend

We have had to do an off cycle payroll due to some overtime that was not submitted. The help from the chat was great. I was given clear cut instructions that were easy to follow. It took me under 10 minutes to find out how to process off cycle and actually process the extra check.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are a manufacturing business and we use TriNet for benefits, payroll, and on boarding and hoping to use it for coaching and other things. We just started in June of this year so we are very new to the platform but have learned many amazing things and will continue to learn throughout the next few months to really understand what it has to offer.

Pros

  • Payroll
  • Time Keeping
  • Benefits

Cons

  • Processing fees
  • Terminations
  • Communication

Likelihood to Recommend

It was a huge step for our company and there are many great things to the platform but I think at the beginning we had a lot of struggles that have now washed out. There were things that we wished were explained better in detail instead of us having to figure it out on our own.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are a small company (19 employees) that bootstrapped our HR function until late 2024. We brought TriNet onboard to give us HR support (no fully dedicated HR employees in our headcount) and make our recruiting, payroll and benefits functions more effective and cost efficient. I like that we have a deep set of HR resources behind us as we scale the company.

Pros

  • The onboarding process was very thorough and trained us well
  • Support for company and employee questions on payroll, benefit and HR matters is quick and accurate.

Cons

  • The only area that our company struggled was with the performance review module. We made it through the review process but the review system was less intuitive than other TriNet modules

Likelihood to Recommend

TriNet was a very good fit for us once we approached 20 employees. There was a good tradeoff of value and enhancing the internal HR function. I'm not sure the value would have been present for us if our headcount was at 10 or fewer employees. Companies with many more employees may already have one or more employees dedicated to HR so that 20 threshold was key for our company.

TriNet is the way to go

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We like to redirect employees to TriNet HR specialists when they have questions or concerns about issues that may arise during the week at work. This feature is super helpful since we don't have a formal HR department. We also use it to pay people via payroll and will begin tracking applicants with the applicant tool system.

Pros

  • They answer the phone for the company admin (me) pretty quickly
  • They are good about following up on reference questions/emails
  • TriNet provides all types of trainings and webinars for us to attend if we want to learn how to best utilize the system

Cons

  • I have a hard time figuring out where things are and tend to click around a bunch
  • If a person has HR realted questions, I think it's best to set up a time to discuss live instead of sending a very long email. Emails can be used to summarize the discussion instead of explaining a very long answer
  • I think TriNet could do a better job at slowing down a bit during the onboarding process. It felt a little rushed and chaotic for me, as a newbie managing a bunch of different tasks for the team. Nonetheless, my implementation manager Denise Chaparro was AMAZING!

Likelihood to Recommend

It is a great function to have for a team that is growing. Once I take the time to learn the features and functions a bit more, I think I will be able to change my response to a 9 to 10.

Pleased with TriNet but always room for improvement

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using TriNet since our start-up was formed over 8 years ago. We are a small company with about 10 employees. TriNet has helped us manage our payroll, human resources and benefits. I have been very impressed with their website and tools/reports they offer to help us manage our business.

Pros

  • Website is well organized and easy to navigate
  • Breadth of Benefit choices
  • Reports and analytics are helpful to manage our business

Cons

  • per employee fees could be more competitive
  • responsiveness to issue resolution could be improved. The Chat service is usually helpful but sometimes issues remain unresolved for long periods of time..

Likelihood to Recommend

In my opinion, not a better PEO

Rating: 1 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use TriNet for PEO services - payroll, benefits, 401K (with Empower), and HR. Our team is entirely remote and spread across several states and TriNet seemed like a solution to these needs. We switched from one of their competitors to TriNet at the beginning of the year. The onboarding session did not go smoothly, as, in our experience, the sales and implementation teams made promises that they could not keep and just outright made mistakes. Most notably was promising us early access to the portal and then not granting it and one of our employees was unable to register due to some unknown glitch in their system. This took a week to resolve with the employee and I having to be on several calls with TriNet's backend engineers until someone figured out the coding issues that were not allowing our employee to sign up. This was only the beginning of the issues that we have had with TriNet in our first year with them.

Pros

  • in our experience, make a mess of payroll taxes
  • in my opinion, ignore customer's emails
  • in my experience, give canned responses on their chat line

Cons

  • onboarding/implementation - in my experience, don't make promises and then break them. Fix the platform so that all new hires can onboard. We experienced one employee not being able to sign up at all and then another whose vacation hours did not load.
  • payroll taxes - in my opinion, do not tell the client that everything is good and you have all the necessary paperwork to process payroll taxes if this is not the case! Communicate with the client that something is missing in the beginning and not 11 months later. In my opinion, once the client has granted TPA access, prioritize the back filings and payments instead of ignoring the client for over a month (or longer, since we still have not heard back from TriNet).
  • customer service - in my opinion, have knowledgeable employees who are empowered to assist clients available on the phone and chat lines. In my experience, I have had more responsive and helpful AI bots assist me than the TriNet employees currently being used.

Likelihood to Recommend

Zero is the rating I want to give. I would not recommend them now based on the rapid regression of services, hidden $1,000 platform fee, and payroll tax complications that TriNet has created for our business. We left their competitor because of various issues and, in our experience, TriNet has now become worse than them for us.

TriNet - It's Okay

Rating: 5 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

TriNet handles our HR processes inclusive of timekeeping, payroll, HRIS, performance management, and some learning. Specific to organizational development initiatives, TriNet has been able to organize performance reviews, goal setting, and training. We utilize review templates, goals, and the LMS authoring tool as well as TriNet's off-the-shelf library of training courses.

Pros

  • LMS authoring tool
  • Goal setting template
  • Custom templates for performance reviews

Cons

  • A more robust feedback feature with the ability to build feedback templates
  • Ability to add custom termination reasons
  • Biometric login to timekeeping app

Likelihood to Recommend

TriNet sometimes lacks in responsive communication. Their platform is hit and miss in terms of features.

Review of TriNet PEO

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use TriNet as a PEO, they handle our Payroll Benefits and HR.

Pros

  • Accuracy of Employees File Information
  • Open Enrollment and ongoing Employee Enrollment in Benefits
  • Onboarding Employees

Cons

  • The Case Management is not responsive, takes weeks to resolve, cases are closed before they are even addressed, seems like the people who read the cases just skim the issues and don't take the time to resolve.
  • The time it takes to process the payroll, once submitted, even weeks with no terminations or issues takes 5 hours or more from the time it is submitted.
  • Requesting forms needed by employees takes weeks to get done, and no one seems to know who should be filling out what forms (ie Centree or 360)

Likelihood to Recommend

Once you learn all of the moving pieces, it is very easy to manage the payroll functions, it is very intuitive letting you know any information you need to know right in the Payroll area. The enrollment and benefits are greatly improved, making it very easy for employees to enroll and see what their options are. They are always working to make improvements to the platform, and the processes. My biggest issue is turnaround time for any issues to be acknowledged, addressed and fixed.
