Trend Micro offers the Smart Protection Suite with XGen, an endpoint security suite including data loss prevention and mobile device protection. The Smart Prtection Endpoint Suite is the basic edition. The Smart Protection Complete Suite also includes a message security gateway for specific applications (e.g. Office 365, Skye, Sharepoint, etc.) and web security gateway for extended capabilities.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

With so many AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools and systems, it became paramount to ensure high levels of securiy on both desktops/ laptops and cellphones. In one instance we had also faced browser hijacking, that took 24-48 hrs to resolve, in the absence of "live" Information Systems (IS) security computer software. The use case this spans (A) business data privacy (B) transaction security (C) Preventive loss to other linked computer software or systems or hardware and thus (D) saving productivity and financial losses due to absence A, B and C above

Pros

  • Trend Micro Smart Protection Suite, with XGen Security, AI-powered actively thwarts malware, ransomware, and phishing (spam emails sometimes pass through filters on some of our email clients and this feature effectively handles those)
  • Operates well with system RAMs as low as 4-8 GB as well!
  • Has some methods for checking URL reputation and thus securing online financial transactions
  • Wifi security - In one instance, it did alert one of our users on Public Wifi risk at an airport causing him to avoid a banking transaction using Wifi

Cons

  • Unsure as to how it drives privacy on AI apps like chatgpt where multiple chat logs have tons of user data (at times personal chats)
  • Cookie cleaning process is under unclear and I recommend supplmenting it with Ccleaner

Return on Investment

  • $45-55/year to prevent financial loss! That in itself, justfies not just this software but Ccleaner as well
  • Free versions help but we find "Addictive" behaviour of running such apps causing productivity loss. Besides, on a system loaded with "n" no. of software and the daily grind, does one have to focus for manual scanning?
  • Privacy - With keyloggers that can figure out passwords with your keyboard noise/rhythm and such "devlish ingenuity" that is already "old school", such a system is a must
  • AI is extremely swift at your "pattern recognition" and with the related privacy being a current grey area, this (or similar) systems are a must. I can skip Starbucks a couple of times but not such a system

Pros

  • Its easy deployment I have installation on servers
  • The level of detail in the logs is very comfortable
  • Virtual patching that you use is unique
  • Consumes few system resources
  • Its high rate of effectiveness in detecting threats

Cons

  • Could improve the agent deployment system
  • It would be a very good improvement to be able to manage everything from the cloud
  • It would be nice not to have to reboot the systems every time it is updated

Most Important Features

  • The use of Machine learning is essential to improve response time when detecting threats
  • With Apex One Vulnerability Protection or HIPS systems can be virtually patched
  • With Apex central I can have visibility of the movement of files or threats

Return on Investment

  • We have been able to consolidate the expense into a single payment reducing costs.
  • It has given us great relief as far as security is concerned
  • When renewing the license this lowers its cost.

  • During run-time you would feel that systems are slow.
  • Ability to detect cyber attack and response to cyber attacks can be improved.
  • Support for advanced malware, botnets can be improved.
  • Some investigation module are provided as optional add-on, so they should be integrated.

  • Integration amongst platforms
  • Automatic, resettable scan times
  • Password manager is an excellent tool with all the passwords that we maintain

  • Issues with setting time
  • Difficult to interrupt a file scan
  • Have had to reinstall it several times
