What is Titan CMS?

Titan CMS is a web content management system (CMS) used to build public websites, intranets, extranets and portals. Powered by Northwoods, it leverages industry standard MVC for .NET Framework and provides a content management workstation interface to produce performance-driven websites.

Titan CMS is a flexible and scalable enterprise content management system that is used in my org which is customized and designed to meet the everyday new needs of both my marketing and IT teams internally as well as externally It is used by my internal team like marketing, finance, Customer Success to make deployment success at my organization internally as well as for outside premises.

Pros

Utilizing a Filter to determine what shows on a page saves countless hours of configuring content that should be displayed on a page - it's been a lifesaver how easy it is to set up too.
Smart Search takes the search box and makes it magical. Common misspellings and alternate names can still send a user to the proper page!
Data nodes and filters can also be configured to Find a Dealer, Doctor, Location etc. It puts the power into a users hands and makes is easy to use.

Cons

Adding link analytics to find broken links would be helpful.
Overwriting an existing file in a file pile, during initial upload could be made easier. Time spent tracking down an original on your network (outside of Titan) to do it properly is painful.
A Training Video Library would be very helpful. Sometimes, just knowing it can be done and a brief visual of the concept is all you need.

Return on Investment

Allowing users to request a quote that goes directly to their choice of dealers has proven to be highly effective in lead conversion.
Our Intranet has improved employee efficiency and reduced wasted network space from duplicate copies.
Filters have allowed users to quickly find their dispensing, warming or chilling equipment solution, proven with conversions to dealer lookups and quote requests.

Pros

It gets easier, after taking a couple starter courses and really digging into detail with what Titan could do, it became super user-friendly and I actually enjoyed learning new things about the product.
The support group for Titan was extremely helpful. Whenever I had a question or needed some assistance they were always ready and willing to go the extra mile to make sure everything was accounted for.
Titan made it super easy to be able to preview and save recent work before making it live on the website. This really helped in getting an idea of how to improve simple texts and pictures.

Cons

Without taking any kind of beginners course through Titan, I found there was a lot of navigation that was very confusing.
Sometimes you really have to dig to find what you are looking for. For example, when there is a table of contents and you have multiple pages under that parent page, it can be very confusing as to which page has the actual information on it and which page you have to tweak in order to get it on the one you are aiming for.
Although Titan made it easy to preview your work before going live, sometimes items did not show up or were in different positions then what they would be in when it goes live. This made it very frustrating to tweak to get that perfect spot.

Return on Investment

Using Titan helped the company improve on issues that the consumers had and shared on our website. It made it easy to really connect with our customers and offer them a level of customer service that otherwise may not have been attainable.
Titan CMS allowed the company to be able to track website leads, find what people were clicking on within the website and really track metrics in order to improve on what the company was offering. This in turn helped with customer leads and allowed our sales guys to connect with those interested prospects.

Pros

Encouraging consistency in the design of content across pages and ensuring content updating by emailing editors when pages haven't been updated after set amount of time.
Flexible navigational structures and design elements such as clam-shell for FAQ sections.
Supports responsive design to handle screen sizes from multiple types of devices.
Good management of versions for both pages and files/images and good publishing workflow.
Good quick image editing capabilities to get the image on the page.

Cons

Titan requires some training and users should have fairly good technology skills. Our organization has moved toward more central editing of web content because distributed staff using Titan struggled too much and so it was easier to have more centralized editing than distributed editing. The problem is that administrative staff didn't have enough technology skills. Titan could improve by having two level of editors... full editors using Titian as it is now and then basic editors that would interact with a page similar to interacting with a Facebook page.
Can be slow at times when you want to quickly move between screens in Titan. This may be the result of our specific hardware that Titan is implemented on.
Sometimes need to edit HTML directly to fix font/formatting problems.
Wish CMS integrated Google Web Analytics to allow viewing of page analytics while editing.
Wish CMS provided help during a responsive design migration by inspecting HTML and highlighting elements (such as tables) that require modification.

Return on Investment

Positive ROI by allowing content contributors embedded within departments with the department domain knowledge to update the site directly. More efficient and less centralized spending.
Requirement for investment in training users of CMS cuts into ROI. Would recommend a two-step workflow where department content contributors enter information into CMS and then approval step is done by webmaster team to ensure content meets standard formatting guidelines. This workflow functionality exists in the Titan CMS.
Positive ROI experienced during projects such as moving to a responsive design because much of the content can migrate untouched. Also positive when updating graphics in template to give site new look.
