This program is being networked for all users to share data. It is similar to Outlook in that it contains a contacts database and a calendar for all employees. We theoretically all have each other's calendars and contact information. There are many other features that can be used, but we do not use them.

When we first started with Time Matters, there were very few other options and it fit the bill. But it didn't really progress with the times and there is now a need for synching with IPhones that was not envisioned back then. Additionally, the number of users is limited to what you purchased and it is not simple to just pay to add a user if a company grows. They MANDATE that you have a service contract which is costly and may not be necessary, and if you want to upgrade to a newer version, they insist that you pay for the contract RETROACTIVELY (!!!) without having use of it.
Our entire law firm, including paralegals, attorneys and support staff use Time Matters. It is used as our primary case management platform. We manage our statute of limitations, calendars, to-dos, and case management through Time Matters. Time Matters plug-ins for Outlook, Adobe and Microsoft Office allow us to link emails, PDF's and documents to the case seamlessly (unless a plug-in crashes, which does happen periodically).
Pros
Tie Matters handles event and to-do notifications well. This ensures that all SOL's and due dates are met.
Time Matters does case management tasks well, including documenting cases, documenting client and opposing counsel interactions and court orders.
Time Matters does a good job of syncing all case data to a users Outlook Calendar, to ensure todo and event notifications on a users Outlook/phone.
Cons
If you have multiple locations and enable SQL replication, Lexis Nexus support will not support you. SQL replication works, but their support team will not touch your system as soon as they see SQL replication is being used.
Time Matters plug-ins for Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and MS Office all crash often and require reinstallation.
Time Matters licensing/support are costly.

Time matters works well when you are in the office, however, it is on-premise software and the lack of a cloud offering makes remote working problematic. We had to open up RDP ports to the internet to allow users to connect to the system remotely, which is less than ideal from a security standpoint.

The whole organization uses Time Matters. It is used for billing, calendaring, document storage and general record keeping. We 4 offices with 20 staff that are regularly using it for many years. We're using the latest version and basically locked into using it for the foreseeable future due to all of the data that it holds.

It really doesn't do anything really well, so it is hard to answer this question.

The whole software package appears to be built for the year 1995.

If you had a time machine and were planning on starting a law firm in the year 1995, this would be the perfect software package for you. It does everything that you would expect a law firm practice management software package would do in the year 1995. Unfortunately, it is the year 2018.
It is used to track attorney and support staff time for billing purposes. It was also used for document management. It is one streamlined piece of software to accomplish multiple tasks.

When working on many client matters and needing to remain organized Time Matters is well suited to assist the task.
Our office uses Time Matters in the legal department so it is not company-wide, however, the entire company has access to it because sometimes the "other side" (we have a real estate department) has to cross-reference one of their files with ours. Time Matters solved some of our toughest problems and that was an organization, document management, and time management. We currently use TM for all of our documentation needs along with using it to store everything in one place. We were previously using folders on a system-wide drive that had no sense of organization because people did things there own way. Here, the files are organized by client, which is sub-categorized by matter, further sub-categorized by the document. Documents then can be listed by name, date, creator, size, etc. I advocated for this system and I was not disappointed.
Pros
File and document management- TM allows you to organize by the client, then matter, then documents for each matter. Documents can then be found by date, name, size, user, etc.
Time management- Our attorneys were previously documenting all their time on paper which the legal assistants would have to go through and manually enter into the billing system. Now, the attorney keeps up with their own clock which working on the case then the legal assistant "pushes" it to the billing system and a bill is ready to be printed.
Organization- You can find everything at your fingertips. Want to look at matter? Go for it. Remember a certain quote from a document you did but not which case? You can search for it. It also has a calendar and email feature which will sync with your Outlook calendar and allow you to have instant access to calendar events to link to your files.
Cons
Billing- In version 12, TM had an actual accounting program built in that would allow you to manage everything all in one, now there is a separate program you must purchase (there is a variety that works with it).
Fonts- The creative side of my brain demands that things be color coded with visible fonts. There aren't any options to change font size or color in TM and I'm hoping that is fixed in 16.
Communication with other programs- TM is set to talk to Office and Adobe along with a few other programs, but I wish there was a way to make it more compatible with every program out office uses.

The legal world- you need this program. There are plenty of other options out there, but TM is by far the best that I have used. This program works for an office of 1 to an office of 100. I have no clue how it would work in any other jobs, it is designed for legal work.

Lexis Time Matters is the program my former employer used to track the billing time of employees and to assist in file management.
Pros
It has a streamlined user interface.
It rarely crashes, which many other programs of this type do.
It does a great job of helping organize my caseload.
Cons
The program would benefit from better customer support.
The program would be stronger by providing for more detailed roles, which you could assign to different users.
The program would benefit by being easier to integrate with non-Lexis products. Sometimes this crosstalk causes issues.

Time Matters is well suited for complex litigation case management. It provides the tools to get on top of case work up and organize tons of information.
