Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use a Synology DiskStation in our environment as a basic file server for centralized storage for several different departments. Rather than spin up and maintain an expensive file server, the portability and efficiency of a NAS better suits our needs. It is also set up as a part of our 3-2-1 backup plan.

In a SOHO environment, the Synology DiskStation is a great device that not only allows for file storage in various data redundancy formats, but it can also take on other roles such as a backup, mail, DNS, or DHCP server. Most models allow for performance improvements with expandable RAM as well.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Synology DiskStation is responsible to control my NAS which is responsible for the backup of all my computers. DS is specialized for Synology DiskStation and has applications to control the health of each hard drive, automated backup and file management. It allows us to run custom JavaScript applications since we can install docker, node and other applications and software. For that it is worthwhile.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

While more and more products are cloud based nowadays, we also have some technologies that are local to the building, such as access control and camera systems. These need a decent backup solution. Synology DiskStation offers this in the Active Backup for Business software. Furthermore, the support for Docker means we can run a local monitoring solution to notify us in case a service disruption occurs.

We appreciate it as a backup target for our internal systems such as camera recorders and access control systems, and the ability to run Docker containers locally, which enables us to run e.g. local monitoring and alerting solutions or a wireless network controller. Synology dissections are generally used as reliable data storage locations. They allow for the connection of multiple drives, provide protection in high-risk situations, and enable the creation of small servers from their setup.

Possibly have a more straightforward GUI.
Offer an offside data location in case of device destruction.

Because they're cheap and they hold the data safely, besides the fact that there is a non-perfect Power adapter going to the rear of the psychology, it is a trustworthy place to hold data.

It is our primary backup server both on-site and backup to Synology cloud. We also use it to store critical shared documents and media. The Synology DiskStation OK makes management easy and compatibility with windows Active directory is a plus. We are in the process of adding surveillance cameras to our NAS too.

Pros

File serving for Windows PC's is outstanding in terms of compatibility and performance and reliability
The cloud storage service is like our own private dropbox and very helpful
The backup for business make backup a no brainer with backup to the box and hyperbackup providing a off-site cloud backup option to Synology Cloud or a plethora of other options

Cons

the Bare Metal restore recovery USB image is missing critical drivers make it necessary to manually add drivers for almost any common systems like Dell optiplex systems.

In terms of reliability, easy of use, and performance it's just simply the best. I really like the perpetual licensing model which I think is far superior to the subscription based models use with other network appliances.

Physical design carried this too. It is so easy to add, swap or manage storage. The tool free design makes this very easy.

Synology DiskStation is our central file server. We have three different Synology NAS for different purposes e.g. Backups, Project documents and large files as videos or orthophotos. We also use them for backing up our O365 environment.

Synology DiskStation is a very good network store that has a long support time of more than 8 years after release and only stops receiving updates if a plausible reason is given. They can be used as an ISCSI, SMB or NFS target. Sometimes, they perform tasks a bit slower than they should. Also, the stop of support for HDDs of other vendors on some models is an unpleasant fact.

We use our Synology DiskStation as a storage server using SMB protocol, to share files with our team. It is also used as a backup server using Nakivo software. Third usage is an iSCSI target for our servers. This is an all-in-one solution for us and is very cost-effective. Without a doubt, I will recommend this product to my peers and associates.

If your IT infrastructure needs are not complicated and need a solution that works and is not too pricey, this is the product for you. Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently have multiple Synology DiskStation's in our environment and have been very happy with them. They are used for general backup with Veeam, Self-hosted IP Camera solutions and general former employee data storage. These devices have become very critical to our day-to-day activities. Both companies I work for have multiple and serve different functions as described above.

While I have Synology DiskStations at work, I also have one at home. While I got one of the doomed models that had multiple issues, I was able to get it resolved by a third party. My point is that they refuse to service equipment even at a cost. Thier answer is to just buy new. While they can guarantee newer hardware, some hardware doesn't need to be fully replaced and could just use a refresh. These units are NOT cheap by any means, but having more support, would be a great help. Other than that, these units are very good/robust and have saved my rear more than once.
