Easy and Quick Customer Management, POS and Appointment Setting system

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Square Customer Engagement as a point of sale tool, but also as our online customer appointment booking and payment system. As a 2-person start-up, we needed something very simple that could serve as both an in-person POS system and online, that way we didn't have to maintain two separate customer databases. Square Customer Engagement not only did that, but serves as an appointment scheduling system for our customers, fully integrating with our Google Calendars, which takes out the guest work out of availability. As our system of record for customer information, we can also use Square Customer Engagement to contact customers regarding their appointments, set up automated messaging (Email and SMS) and send marketing campaigns. Really love that everything is under one roof with Square Customer Engagement.

Pros

  • Appointment Scheduling
  • Invoicing and billing of customers
  • Customer messaging
  • Marketing

Cons

  • Inability to transfer funds to bank in real time (PayPal offers this option, for a fee)
  • The option to create a website on Square is very limited. We opted to integrate the Square appointment setting tool into our site, as the site Square offered was subpart.
  • Google calendar integration is now a premium feature, and it used to be included!

Square is absolutely brilliant if you are just starting out and your business has both an in-person and an online component to it, as Square will solve both in-person POS and online booking/billing. Square also offers the option to create a free website for your company, though it is a very basic site, if you don't have a website yet, this is a VERY helpful option, as it takes away a huge cost. Square allowed us to be up and running in no time, taking away the need to worry about an expensive appointment-setting add-on from our current website provider (Square integrates quite nicely with our current site).

Square is probably less ideal for more advanced users or companies with a need for more detailed inventory/service management. But even then, Square will more than likely be able to get the job done!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Square Customer Engagement to keep track of my clients, as well as people who have purchased from me. It's great to have a record of who purchased what so I can use that info to market to them in the future.

Pros

  • User friendly interface
  • Easy to keep track of clients

Cons

  • Could have more customizable fields
  • More customizable reports

Likelihood to Recommend

When you need a simple CRM, sales, and marketing tool all in one, this is a great option. I hate having to have multiple different pieces of software to do what you need. This is great that it is all one system that connects seamlessly.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I recently subcontracted to a client that uses this software in their business. They use it to manage their sales pipelines and customer base. I found it pretty easy to use over other CRM systems I've used on projects.

Pros

  • Sales pipeline
  • Customer engagement
  • Marketing

Cons

  • Nothing that stands out to me

Likelihood to Recommend

I've only used it on one client project, so I don't have enough data or use to answer this. I was involved with a marketing project to generate leads for the client CRM, so I only used a few of the features.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

For my independant contractor work in IT Support, and Consultation I am the only employee, and thus I am the only one using the Square system, and this is exactly why it is perfect for me. My work is at times few and far between since I have a full time job as well, so there are times I use my Square frequently, and other times not at all or very little for a while. There are no monthly charges, which again is perfect due to the low utilization at times, and the hardware is free or reasonably priced depending on what you need. It allows me to take a payment from nearly anyone as checks can be a risky thing at times in this day and age, and guarantees payment.

Pros

  • No monthly fees
  • Reasonable per transaction fee
  • Good priced equipment/addons
  • Chip and NFC readers available

Cons

  • Some of the build quality on the peripherals could feel a bit better.
  • Have more options for businesses with more credit card transactions such as monthly or discounted per transaction once a certain number is reached.
  • Have functionality to allow for a typed card number without the higher fee if the software verifies there is a hardware/read error with the card.

Likelihood to Recommend

[Square is well suited for] Any small business / independent contractor with little to medium business flow where a monthly fee just doesn't make sense. If you are performing large transactions or have a lot of business / a lot of people using square readers then an actual flat rate from a bank / provider would likely be a better option.
