Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used Spotfire for data visualizations including but not limit to business metrics report as well as patient profile and safety data review in clinical studies. It adresses the user requirement that have interactive visualizations and support drill down analysis with the study data, allow users to have in-depth understanding about the contributed data points behind the visulizations and tables, etc. Some kind of standard reports and visualization / tables have been developed that could be reused for different purpose.

Pros

Support diversified visualizations and tables with multiple filters panels
Built-in drill down analysis and tooltips support with additional information presented as needed
Support expanded data analysis with external programming language like R, SAS when necessary
Support multiple data sources and file formats

Cons

The interface could be further beutified and optimized, adapt to the modern front-end UI design
The performance enhancement when proceed huge datasets in published web player working mode
Simplify the call function of external language R, SAS, even with API, etc.

Likelihood to Recommend

Generally, I would highly recommend Spotfire for those scenarios that have the requirements with interactive visualizations and drill down analysis to conduct data review and insights analysis. In addition, If user need to have a quick solution without much programming efforts for visualizations, Spotfire is the right option. In addition, Spotfire visualizations is more suited for those data with relatively stable structures and the data size is not too huge.

In another word, I would not recommend to use Spotfire for those scenarias, including regulatory submissions activities that have strict GxP compliance requirement, have very flexible and frequently changed data structures, as well as when the underlying data is very huge. Other than that, if complicated model analysis expected, Spotfire might not be the best choice.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Spotfire is an extremely versatile visual analytics tool which utilizes a no-code, point and click approach to data science based solutions. In my organization, we primarily use Spotfire as a means to visually represent and analyze test data from production or prototype parts. This could be to quickly identify outliers or to apply various statistical methodology such as capability analysis. Though with the flexibility of the tool, we also use it as a means to improving outdated web based project tracking tools.

Pros

Easy to use, no-code, point and click UI
Great visual analysis tool for bulk data sets
Flexible use-case with quick embedded open-source integration
Create dashboards that stand the test of time

Cons

Easier debugging for slow to load tables/analytic dashboards
Improved how-to organization and detail from Tibco Spotfire's website
Allowing the option for a prototyping mode which will only load small percentage of data for quicker load times

Likelihood to Recommend

In general, Spotfire does very well with linking any databases together for quick visual analysis. The tool is incredibly flexible and the UI is quite fluid. It's extremely easy to change a dataset or table columns from one visual analysis to another and the Spotfire's assistant will often recommend the best options based on the data set. Most, if not all, SQL operations can be performed within the information designer and retained in a personal folder for ease of use in a new analysis board. As a downside, the tool does not outperform Excel, which is still the go-to location for table based, SQL linked projects/tools.

Better visualization on the data that we want to show to our customers.
Better filtering on data.

Cons

Expensive license.
Performance issues on the large datasets.
Users look for more customization.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Se use the tool in order to represent BI information for some of our customers. They needed a strong solution to avoid Excel based analyses and they wanted a tool that could be customized to obtain a good look and feel result. In such a contest Spotfire represented a good solution for the IT Office.

We use Spotfire cloud to create and share visual analysis across our departments. This product addresses our previously lack of alignment and internal communities when it comes to company goals, impact from the different segments of our company. We have been using this tool for a while now and it quickly became the go to tool for our QBRs.

Likelihood to Recommend

We've found Spotfire particularly useful when visualising data analysis. Sharing dashboards and visuals across teams and being able to align the data to each team's area of focus and goals. It's been a great collaboration tool because of its ability to be managed/used by different people simultaneously.
We have noticed that this is not the best tool when sharing among teams or users without strong technical skills and so we've had to split our data and visuals between full sets of data and smaller sample data for those departments with less technical skills. We also noticed that large data sets can cause the tool to be slow and affect users working on it simultaneously.

My own experience suggests that Spotfire works best in situations requiring data processing and visualization. Spotfire is the perfect solution for analyzing and visualizing this complicated data because of its powerful analytics skills and ability to link to numerous data sources. Financial services firms are another setting in which Spotfire excels. To make wise business judgments, this industry is always in need of analyzing massive amounts of financial data. But there are other situations in which Spotfire might not be as useful. When real-time data analysis is the main focus, this is one such situation. Streaming or real-time data analysis is not as well suited for Spotfire as historical data analysis is.

I have realized, that it takes a lot of time to get used to a wide variety of graphs.
