Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Spanning backup as a solution to do off-site backups of all my Office 365 user mailboxes. The admin portal makes it easy to do backups or restores. It only took less than five minutes to schedule the backup sync of my Office 365 tenant.

Cons

It would be nice to have the ability to restore multiple emails using a date range
Add an option to backup Microsoft Teams
Add an option to backup 3rd party cloud apps already connected to my Office 365 tenant.

Likelihood to Recommend

Spanning Backup is perfect for us smaller organizations that have fewer users we're not forced to buy a set amount of licenses to use the service. I can buy one license to however many I need. Other solutions do not offer this kind of flexibility. The other feature I like about Spanning Backup there is no need for me to run an on-premises server to store my backups other solutions will require running an on-premises server. Spanning backups are stored offsite managed by the Spanning team.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Spanning Backup for G Suite is being used across the district to backup our business office and teachers Google Drives so that if something were to happen and someone accidentally deleted a Google Doc and now with the 30-day auto trash deletion we would still be able to recover those files using Spanning Backup for G Suite.

Pros

Easy interface to navigate
Quick restoration of files
Easy administration/ adding new accounts.

Cons

Better support/phone support
The ability to checkmark JUST a single OU and then any new members in just THAT OU would be automatically backed up. Currently, you can just auto add new members but not per OU.

Likelihood to Recommend

Spanning Backup for G Suite is great for businesses or schools who want peace of mind that important data in Google Drive are backed up and easy to restore. It should not be used to backup your servers/etc as the backup and restore process is not THAT quick. Not slow, but not the quickest.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Spanning Backup for Salesforce is being used primarily by myself. I have given access to my team, but have not trained nor gone over its features and capabilities with the majority of the team. After having to do manual backups and using multiple tools to make sure we have a back up of our data and metadata, we switched to Spanning as it streamlined all backing up of SaaS data and metadata. The set it and forget it concept resolved issues of dedicating a resource to do the manual work.

Pros

Set it and forget it. Easy set up and it runs daily behind the scenes.
Restore holds record relationships.
Restore can merge records easily.

Cons

Not idiot-proof. This needs to be used by someone who is familiar with the data structure and the object mappings.
Easy to roll out.
Moves data to sandboxes as well.

Likelihood to Recommend

Spanning Backup for Salesforce is best for a company with data that doesn't expire. There is no retention of the data that is backed up as it completes daily incremental backups. If you only want specific time periods like a rolling 90 days, you will not be able to set this, so it may not be appropriate for this.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Spanning is used across our entire organization of approximately 80 active users. Every active user mailbox, as well as Google Drive storage contents, are backed up with Spanning. All files types including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms as well as Microsoft and Adobe file types are backed up perpetually and available for restoration.

Pros

Perpetual email and file backups.
No limits on backup volume, capacity or file types.
Excellent Management Console for Administrative users.
End-user access available for self-management.
Easy to enable and disable various accounts for backup.
Easy to restore emails and files from one account to another.

Cons

Administrative users can backup multiple accounts at one time, but can only restore one account at a time.
Management console navigation opens additional tabs, but I believe they are working to improve that.
It would be nice to be able to delete emails and files from user accounts from within Spanning instead of having to login to Google as the user.
Google Forms meta-data is not able to be restored to other accounts.

Likelihood to Recommend

Spanning is well suited for backing up Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, and Form data, as well as other file types including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Acrobat PDF, PhotoShop and InDesign files. It also backs up media files of all formats. It is not well suited to backing up Access databases. It can also not restore Google Form meta-data.

Spanning solved a critical problem for our organization by allowing us to backup both records and metadata with an easy-to-use, in-app tool. We no longer automatically back up all of our Salesforce information, which is the product of dozens of hours of work, daily, and recovery of both large swaths of data and specific records is simple.

Pros

Easy to install and use.
Integrates well with Salesforce and can be accessed from within Salesforce.
Specific changes to records or metadata can easily be identified and restored.

Cons

Thus far, Spanning has completely fulfilled all of our backup needs, and we are completely satisfied.
While we haven't needed technical support yet, we were told that this is conducted via email rather than via phone.

Likelihood to Recommend

We are a small organization, so Spanning's pricing was particularly attractive (it is priced on a per-user basis and has no minimum). We view a backup application like Spanning as absolutely critical as we have spent dozens of hours constructing a custom framework and populating data. Spanning provides us this comfort.

We are currently using Spanning for G Suite to backup several of our more critical users. I enjoy the extra peace of mind knowing that should something get deleted, I've got the users covered. Initially I looked into the software after concerns of an employee exiting the company were brought to my attention.

Pros

Well, first of all it does what its name suggests: it backs up G Suite and does a fantastic job of doing so.
Recovery of files is as simple as locating what you require and hitting go.
The setup process took less than 30 minutes.

Cons

Nothing that I would really need? It's a pretty well rounded software as is.

Likelihood to Recommend

Anyone who is a GSuite Administrator and wants added functionality should look at this. Never worry about accidental email deletion again!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently use Spanning Backup for sales force as an interface tool. We use the backup scheduling tool regularly. It gives us confidence that we will not lose data every day and it is a big relief. I also like the backup and restore features, it's super easy to do and after a few clicks, it's completed.

Pros

Use the backup scheduling tool regularly to book up data
Using it to back up data on leads and opportunities.
Helps with controlling or limiting API consumptions

Cons

It is a bit expensive, we are a large company so it adds up quickly
Sometimes takes longer than I'd like with data backing up and restoration
Takes a while for me in terms of learning curve

Likelihood to Recommend

We had previously had issues with server crashes and losing data. Now we have peace of mind, with Spanning Backup it has allowed me to have peace of mind that our data is backed up regularly every day. The UI is also pretty simple to use (once I learned it) and the restoration tool is very simple.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Using it for Salesforce for back up and storage solution which is integrated directly with Salesforce which is great. We use it for backing up and recovering data loss. IT's great with the automated secure point backups. It also allows administrators to get data back fast and continue to do their job and get back to task.

Pros

For my team, our master accounts and opportunities were corrupted, back up was recovered from this data which was a huge lifesaver.
Using it for secure data logs.
We routinely use it for Backup scheduling which has also been great.

Cons

The price is a bit expensive, to be honest. We have many users so it adds up quickly.
Uses a technology that will be later owned by Dell.

Likelihood to Recommend

The need for storage is real. Our company is a global company and we have many folks on Salesforce inputting data every day. We are saving a lot of money by using back up and schedule routinely rather than integration of an external storage space which can be extremely expensive and time-consuming to integrate.
