SonicWall NSA Series Reviews & Insights

We have 2 SonicWall NSA Series firewall appliances. They are our primary firewalls for our network and serve as the perimeter of our network. These firewalls serve as one part of our cybersecurity layer. We use these appliances like any typical firewall appliance gets used. These firewalls allow a few select people to be able to access internal network resources from outside of the network. The High Availability capability ensures that our network maintains an Internet connection if one appliance ever goes down. We use IPS, VPN, and more features.

I believe it is well suited for small and medium-sized businesses. I would have to evaluate further for a more complex environment, but if the NSA series wasn't enough, then SonicWall NSA Series has a higher brand series that may be more applicable.

This is a high end business-class firewall, built to handle volume while still delivering top tier protection for the organization. We have licensing for AV, anti-botnet, and secure browsing protection as well as VPN access. We use rule sets for direct connections and also filter based on Geo-IP settings. It is a multi-faceted and highly adaptable firewall.

This is a higher-end firewall, built for a medium to large business. It handles traffic and scanning and protection well but it would be a bit of a budget-buster and probably overkill for a small to (barely) medium sized business. SonicWall makes SoHo devices for those use cases and they would be more appropriate.

I use it to secure our data center network. We use the VPN to build a connection to our office as well as the Azure cloud.

We were a small business and it was very well suited for an smb . The basic security was good and fairly simple. The issue I would say was the biggest issue was pushing out rules to multiple appliances.

We utilize the SonicWall NSA 4600 as an all-in-one firewall/security/VPN appliance for our organization of 5000 users and gigabit internet. We utilize IPS, DPI, content filtering, VPN, mail filtering, and more. We currently run in an HA configuration for active failover. This is used over our entire organization, and it solves the problem of needing a secure connection to the internet and allowing secure connections from the internet to several locally hosted servers.

SonicWall NSA is best suited for small to mid-size companies or small to medium K-12 school districts. It's less appropriate for larger businesses and schools. This is due to their ease of use and well-rounded feature set but lacks in advanced configuration, performance, and reliability.

The SonicWall NSA Series provides firewall protection at each of our branch locations. The NSA series specifically has the hardware power to acommodate the number of active connections we have at each branch. Combined with the comprehensive gateway security license, SonicWall NSA provides a solid first line of defense of whatever bad stuff our users may try to download.

SonicWall NSA is an excellent mid-range firewall suitable for branch office locations that expect a lot of network traffic. The higher-end NSA can take the bandwidth requirements of thousands of users while using Deep Packet Inspection and Antivirus features. We currently have SonicWall NSA deployed in a high availability mode configuration, and amazingly can failover to the backup hardware without dropping VPN connections. SonicWall NSA series is not recommended for companies who integrate VPNs with Cisco devices, as I've had difficulties with the VPN staying up.

It's a solid device series I recommend to various clients. It can be as simple or complex as necessary, reliable, and a cost effective solutions for small to mid sized businesses. The user console is easy, installing certs and licenses is also easy to do. Adding WAPs or other devices is easy. The units are well made and can be rack mounted or stand alone (ideal for some smaller clients).

I feel it's great for smaller organizations with limited WAP needs and limited technology staff. It is easy to set up, has the settings you need for most configurations, can handle additional complexities as needed. The VPN licenses are a little pricey, but easy to manage and administer. Great product for the right organizations. If you have powerhouse needs, go with Cisco, but if not, this will be great.
