We use it for reference checks for all our new hires. Prior to Skill Survey we were rarely getting the reference checks completed and even when we did the information we received was not valuable.
Pros
Ease of use
Quick turnaround of results
Clear and valuable feedback from references
Variety of types of reference checks based on job descriptions
Cons
None
Likelihood to Recommend
If you want to receive honest reference feedback that can help influence a hiring decision, Skill Survey provides the solution.
We utilize SkillSurvey for professional reference checks and sourcing passive candidates that have interest in the organization. We're able to share the reference checks as a report within human resources and the hiring manager. Those that respond to the reference check are able to "opt in" for further contact regarding opportunities based on their current role or experience. We can sort by recruiter that oversees the position or role the candidate listed.
Pros
Reference check
Report generation
Sourcing passive candidates
Cons
Simplified template generating
Too many extra tabs popping up for a report
Automatic reminder emails for references that do not open or respond to link
Likelihood to Recommend
SkillSurvey really is great for reference checks and how to communicate with the contacts provided. It's a great way to easy view the reports, ensure that someone is not filling out their own reference information, and being able to contact passive candidates that have interest in your organization. The templates are easy to generate once you use them a couple times.
We use this system to complete reference checks for all candidates under consideration for an offer.
Pros
Reference check reporting.
Ranking candidate skills.
Clear reporting.
Cons

This system is well-suited to completing reference checks for a wide variety of candidates in almost any industry. The reporting is excellent - visually pleasing and easy to read. The reports can be downloaded into PDF and shared with managers as needed. We can also use the system to source candidates. As a system administrator, it is easy to manage users (add and delete).

SkillSurvey is used by some of our clients as their tool for pre-employment referencing. We also use the tool ourselves, for our new hires. SkillSurvey allows us to vet all our new hires and some of our clients' new hires, so we know they're the correct choice for the job and there are no red flags.
Pros
It is very easy to use, so we don't have to spend time training others how to process reference checks.
SkillSurvey seems to gather many more responses than other vendors used. This is great because it stops us from having to physically call additional references.
We're able to gather leads from the references who complete the link and opt to be contacted by a recruiter. In the HR/recruitment world, this is seen as free leads!
Cons
Customizability is lacking, you have to choose from job titles that are already stored in the tool. Some clients don't like this.
There is no option for someone to opt to do the reference via phone, this could prevent someone from completing the reference.
Likelihood to Recommend
I think if any corporation wants to include reference checks in their pre-employment or selection process they should choose SkillSurvey. They seem to be the best of all the vendors I've used, and able to get the most completed references, as well as the leads as a perk. The only time I think it would be less appropriate is if the company was very small and reference checks via a tool such as SkillSurvey may be unnecessary.
