Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Shopify Plus and its connecting apps for D2C sales. For example, Recharge, a subscription-based app, connects to the Shopify platform, where all our customer data is stored. It’s also great that we can set up promo codes for any sales that we choose to run.

Shopify is great for small to medium size enterprise who can control the visual identity of their site. Shopify starts being costly when you try to customize the template. Nevertheless Shopify Plus has accelerated their transformation into enterprise level capabilities. The number of new features released over the past 12 months has been impressive. Shopify Plus offers the best cost effective way to launch and operate websites. Shopify Plus offers more features in North America than in some of the other regions. The main weakness is in the Shopify lack of native App solution and the lack of regional payment gateway and logistics partners in some of the other regions outside of USA and Canada.

Shopify Plus allows us to set up multiple versions of our website but for different international markets. We can easily process orders in different currencies. We are able to create new price lists for different types of business customers and the system automatically applies the pricing and quantity discounts without the staff having to remember to do it which speeds up training.

Shopify Plus is great for companies which have different types of customers and therefore you need different price lists (catalogues). You can assign these to different businesses and the price automatically changes without staff members needing to memorise who gets which, streamlining everything immensely. You can also create many different shipping tariffs for different locations and weights so it is great if you ship to Europe or America.

Shopify Plus is perhaps not great if you only sell 1 item in a small market. There are a lot of features you are just not going to use.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to manage 15+ clients' websites! It takes so much work out of the picture in a way that we know can be relied upon. Inventory management, order processing / management, login flow, page structure, asset CDN. It also brings with it a sense of trust for the customer and client.. and for us a trust that there will be 99.99% uptime and speedy resolution of issues.

Cons

Webhooks often fire more than once or not at all. Keeping certain aspects in sync and trusted as such is tough. Webhooks should retry based on response status.
Importing legacy customers/orders/products isn't simple. Having to use third party tools (eg. matrixify) isn't a good solution.

Likelihood to Recommend

It's good for an existing site that can afford to pay the cost for the transaction fees in exchange for a good set of third party tools and decent existing platform to support most business needs. It may not suit a larger business ($30M+ pa) where the upfront development cost and maintenance might be worth it to offset the costs of being on the Shopify Plus platform.

We use Shopify Plus for our ecommerce website. The lower payment processing fees, access to scripts and special features, checkout, and extension stores are the main Plus features we're taking advantage of with Plus. We've been users of Shopify Plus for a long time, and it makes sense for our use-case.

If you are approaching $1M in annual sales, Shopify Plus makes sense for the discount on processing fees alone. If you could also take advantage of the expansion stores, or need some specific features like B2B when it would make sense.
For smaller brands, or if you're just starting out with Shopify, in my opinion it's probably overkill -- save your money and consider it when your revenue is higher.

We use Shopify Plus to sell products to customers online, but we are also customers of its payments gateway and international markets product. We've been happy with the platform and the support they have provided, and they seem to have scaled well with our business over the last few years since we started using them.
