Riverside.fm is the new technology partner with Spotify for Podcasters, replacing their native tools with a robust platform incorporating video and audio recording, editing, transcribing, and more. Because of this integration, I have begun using Riverside.fm to create podcast episodes for my show, Discover Music With AnEarful, which seeks to shine a light on the finest music of our time through samples from recent releases.
Pros
Great looking platform with a handsome layout.
Makes it easy to invite interviewees into your "studio"
Provides livestream capabilities
Cons
Unable to upload multiple files at once
For the beginner, while the layout looks good it is somewhat opaque as to how to get started
Free account features an immovable tile asking for $15/month.

While Riverside.fm is good for creating videos, it's less well-positioned to create audio-only shows.
For making podcasts and distributing them. Riverside helps me conduct remote podcasting and their platform actually does a great job of giving me all the tools I need to edit, produce and distribute it.
Pros
Recording Podcasts
Editing Podcasts
Distributing Podcasts
Cons
Account management is next to nothing
Support is the worst I've ever come across.

Their platform is great. In my opinion, their service is TERRIBLE. All I wanted was for them to change out my login with a new password and it was like pulling teeth! Weeks go by and you know how you get the sense that they don't even READ your initial complain? And then they ask you a bunch of questions after that? That was happening ALL the time. I had to CONTINUALLY reframe the problem for them. So you can tell where their priorities are. On their website it reads: "Meet our mind-blowing support team" - They need to swap 'mind-blowing' out with 'brain-boiling'. If you're looking to be left in the dark with a product that again, is pretty good, then Riverside is for you.
I use Riverside.fm when recording content with remote guests. When recording with all employees, I can have a system and a location for them to record on their own camera and upload the file so that I can download and have all recordings in one place to edit the episode. When we have a guest on I want the process to be as easy for them as possible, so using Riverside.fm I can send them a link for them to connect, and once they are done and their file is uploaded, they can disconnect and don't have to worry about anything else.
Pros
very easy to use
great to have all video files in one location automatically
the backup audio files are perfect to download and make sure all files are synced up for editing
it's easy to get on as a producer and be there to help everyone else who is recording without being recorded myself.
Cons
I have had some times where there are video glitches, and I have been told that it could be because of other software running. It would be good if the software were more robust and able to more consistently get smooth video.
I have had a couple instances of people being kicked off and their video files were not recoverable.

Riverside.fm is well suited for video content that you are recording ahead of time in order to edit and release where you are inviting people to participate that are not part of your organization. You can send them a link and they just have to go to the website and be in the conversation. There is no software to download and they do not have to worry about handling their video files after they are done.
