We have been able to implement Oracle Warehouse Builder for a department and as an enterprise solution. We have used it for years to transform data and clean bad data. All this means is that we consolidate the random spreadsheets, home-grown applications, flat-files, and anything else that users can manage to produce randomly. We can bring that junk together and scrub it so it's not only in one place but clean, too.

The best place for Oracle Warehouse Builder is at the business IT level. It's not suited for business-level users. They are easy confused. One way to reduce the confusion for the developers is to set up the workspaces based on the requirements that are discovered in design sessions. Once this is complete, the implementation of Oracle Warehouse Builder can take flight and be successful.

We're using Oracle Warehouse Builder to offload data from Oracle databases, to transform and to load into operational reporting environment (operational data store) which is an another Oracle database.

Oracle Warehouse Builder helps us to add meaning into operational raw data and to perform initial transformations for business users' requirements.

If you plan to upgrade your databases to newer versions, you need to migrate your Oracle Warehouse Builder jobs to Oracle Data Integrator (fastest and easiest way) or an other ETL tool, because Oracle Warehouse Builder came to an end and does not support newer versions of databases as it is described in statement of direction.

There will be no major releases of Oracle Warehouse Builder (latest

release is 11GR2 - 11.2.0.4), but bug resolving and minor releasing will continue.

Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) is best used for small to middle warehousing projects. In the past, it had a disadvantage compared to other ETL tools (like Informatica) working with non-Oracle sources or targets, but this was improved during the latest releases.

I have used Oracle Warehouse Builder for implementation of Data Extraction, Transformation and Load in my Project. It was used in the Telecom department and is extremely useful for transforming data for building reports for business users and downstream systems. It is a pretty simple ETL tool that provides all viable options required for building reports for data analysis for business intelligence problems.

Well suited to address simple and straight forward business problems. Has room for improvement from automation perspective and complex data transformation functions.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is used for bringing data from a production database to a reporting database. Oracle Warehouse Builded (OWB) was supplied by Ellucian when the Banner production system was installed. It is mostly maintained by another company that is the outsourcing company for us - SICAS, but I use OWB to update some objects that are created locally for some specific business needs.

If the data volume is big it is a good tool. In my organization the database it is used for is very small.
