I use Optimizely Content Management System to manage all of the content and build pages on our company's website. We have a separate external team that helped us develop the front-end design of the site built on Optimizely, and our internal team does the ongoing maintenance and building of new pages on the website. We also use Optimizely Content Management System to help with doing optimization and testing of our website.

We implemented Optimizely Content Management System over two years ago to host all content for philanthropies [...] to facilitate fundraising efforts for six brands that we represent. We now have a dependable cloud solution that has allowed our small team to easily add new content, and make changes to the layout and functionality in a timely fashion.

Pros

Easily add reusable content with blocks so there is one place to make changes that are applied wherever that content block exists.
The digital asset library makes it easy to store files (images and pdf's) and make updates to those files that are applied everywhere.
Real-time live preview and then can publish changes instantly or schedule when content is published.
Webpages are desktop or mobile friendly without having to make custom pages or layouts.
The additional tools we find helpful are the link validation, global find and replace, and the ability to define personas.

Cons

The image editor needs better functionality and options for automated image sizing choices.

Likelihood to Recommend

We like the options to create user permissions for different roles/responsibilities and to have workflows for different teams within the organization to have varying levels of access to pages as well as their ability to edit or publish content. With different fundraising campaigns, we like the ability to create/design elements of a page and then schedule when they will be published without having to worry about the the time of day it needs done.

It currently allows our organization to quickly and effectively update content without the bottleneck of developers or designers. We can iterate and build quicker with Optimizely Content Management System compared to our previous solutions of WordPress or having developers own the content. Having the technology paired with the experimentation tool and everything in one place is great.

We use it for our website and I'm the webmaster for the college, so I'm on there almost every day. We use it to speak to multiple audiences, primarily prospective students, but we also use it for other audience groups, external and internal. They're secondary. I also oversee the department web authors. There are people just within other departments that need to edit their page for this or that. That's pretty much the extent of it.

I think depending on the version, I assume is where some of the functionality may be more robust or not. I've seen some functionality recently where it's more like drag and drop functionality and the version I'm using right now has that to some extent, but I think it can be developed even further at the lower versions and without having to purchase the entire suite. I think some of the functionality I don't have on my version, and so I'd like to see that just implemented across the board.

It's definitely well suited for a large organization where you need to have multiple users paying attention to the content on specific pages, especially pages that are buried in a robust site. It's great for that, for the non-techie to be able to edit the information on their page, so to speak. Where I think it could be more robust is in the ability to kind of support more multimedia content and maybe make it a little bit easier to do forms because it has a capability obviously, but to some extent that is too complex for the non-techie to be able to create their own form as well as just some of the content blocks. I mean, I'm sure that a lot of time has been spent studying the complexity of that and whether the non-techie can manage something like a block. But I've found in my experience that even just basic group content block that's like the accordion, if you will, is too difficult for the non-techie person to be able to edit.
