Red Hat OpenShift is widely adopted as an enterprise shared tenancy Kubernetes solution for application hosting and deployment, with 18% of reviewers citing this use. It functions as a comprehensive containerization and virtualization platform, enabling microservices adoption and improving developer productivity. In TrustRadius reviews, users frequently praise its streamlined deployment processes, intuitive GUI, robust security features, and strong scalability and reliability across varying workloads.

While reviewers note significant efficiency gains from its integrated tooling like OpenShift Pipelines, the platform presents a steep learning curve due to its complexity. Why it matters:

  • A large proportion of reviewers, 29%, primarily deploy Red Hat OpenShift on-premises, using it for both non-production and production workloads across multiple data centers. While many are currently on-premises only, some are actively exploring or planning to integrate public cloud options to achieve hybrid strategies. This indicates a strong current reliance on on-premises infrastructure, coupled with an evolving interest in expanding to other environments.

We are fully on-prem and have connections in 3 datacenters. We utilize Red Hat OpenShift in all of our non-production environments as well as production

On-premises deployments

16 mentions

Why it matters:

  • Approximately 20% of reviewers exclusively use Red Hat OpenShift in on-premises environments, often citing security purposes or strict data governance policies as reasons for not extending to public clouds. Some organizations are also deploying OpenShift on bare metal, KVM, or VMs within their private data centers, with plans to potentially introduce hybrid cloud elements in the future. This highlights a strong preference for controlled, private infrastructure for certain workloads.

I have used it in my on prem homelab environment and combined with CI/CD performing rolling updates as changes are made makes it helpful to use in constantly changing environments.
