nopCommerce - The ecommerce platform that grows with your business
Pros
- The nopCommerce team has created a platform that can be extended to solve a broad range of ecommerce needs. Rather than trying to force a client's business requirements to adapt to the solution, the solution can be customized to meet their goals. We are able to do this in a way that still allows upgrades in the future!
- The nopCommerce platform roadmap is heavily based on feedback from the development community and from customers. They actively engage developers and end-users in discussions regarding new features and technology.
- Frequent releases on the latest, supported, Microsoft .NET framework.
- The nopCommerce team has created a very active developer support community.
- A plugin & theme marketplace for off-the-shelf customizations.
Cons
- The nopCommerce team has been consistent at providing frequent release updates. Third-party plugins require upgrading when a new release is launched. Some plugin vendors lag behind by a few weeks which can cause delays if you need to leverage new functionality right away. The good news is that many plugin vendors offer an option to purchase source code so that you can do the upgrade yourself, if needed right away.
- CMS functionality is very basic if you want to manage a lot of robust content pages. We solve this with an in-house plugin that we developed to extend this functionality.
Return on Investment
- The nopCommerce platform is one piece of the puzzle in building a successful ecommerce website. It's an excellent foundation for all of your future marketing campaigns to drive traffic to your online store.
- Implementation cost can be higher when you are building a solution around custom business requirements and integrations. If you don't have custom requirements, you might consider an off-the-shelf hosted solution.
