If you're looking for a small or medium size eCommerce portal, nopCommerce is the best framework. 1. Cost = open sourced framework. You will just simply bypass the application design and development process, but you will have to code to do whatever you want to do for your business needs. It will save you a lot of time and money. 2. Technical Architecture = It was created with the best application design and architecture. If you are not into eCommerce, but want to understand EntityFrame code first and domain architecture, Dependency Injection,..etc, nopCommerce is the one. 3. I'm sure your business users will ask for the features that are already included with nopCommerce.

OpenCart is great for web developers familiar with PHP who have clients who want very specific eCommerce functionalities. OpenCart is "open-source," meaning its source code is open to the public and downloadable and editable by anyone. This makes customizing its functionalities possible with nearly an infinite variety of possibilities. If you are not tech savvy and don't like to read documentation and configure advanced settings, then OpenCart is not the best solution for you.

Cons
  • More community templates would be great.
  • Some of the pricing can be a bit tricky, especially configured items... there is a likelihood of mispriced items with the current structure

  • Sometimes developer skill is required to work on admin module.
  • Add-on modules are often necessary, and you need to purchase them separately
  • Hard to update it to new versions, and it is constantly updating
  • Though it is smooth to use, it works on a read-edit-delete system. Deleting data is very critical.

Support Rating
I have asked numerous questions and the team treats my random questions as if they are critical to the continued success of their product. They really take each users' questions to heart and strive to solve them. I cannot commend them enough on how fast they respond to questions as well as the follow-through given to things thay may or may not even be a part of their platform.

Both platforms are feature-rich. I chose OpenCart because I found a theme that suits me. Plus there were many third-party extensions that I was interested in and they can be integrated with OpenCart.

  • At the time of starting a business, OpenCart helped us with easy setup and catalog management. We have stared and deployed e-commerce sites very easily.
  • The websites didn't look good at first (we modified later) and that impacted our business as our clients received a lot of orders.
