Great for analytics workloads!
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We use SQL Server for our data warehouse. It's sitting on an Azure VM. Our analysts pull large data sets into SSMS, R, and Tableau all day long. Most of the runtime for these queries is waiting on the network. NitroAccelerator cuts those wait times by 50-90%! This has sped us up dramatically. Waiting for queries was a regular time sink, and now it's something we never have to think about. Most of our analysts don't even know that NitroAccelerator is running in the background.
Pros
- Speed up network-choked queries
- Massive compression for data transfer
Cons
- I would love to move to serverless DBaaS - Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS for SQL Server. However, the product needs to be installed on the server.
Likelihood to Recommend
If you have an analytics-supporting SQL Server instance on a VM or bare metal, this is for you. Any large queries will get a massive speed-up. If you're using a DBaaS, then you would need to set up a proxy VM to see the benefits. If you have a transactional-only database, you won't likely see any benefits.
