Naviswork is usually used throughout all design offices within all departments. It helps engineers bring all Revit models together and figure the LOD and the intensity of clashes at the final stages. It is mainly used to determine the interdepartmental clashes that occur throughout the design stage and aims to mitigate these clashes, it also helps to navigate the compiled Revit models.
Pros
Detects clashes of different building systems.
3D viewing and navigation of compiled Revit models.
Cloud accessibility.
Cons
The ability to fix multiple (similar clashes) at once needs to be adopted and fully integrated.
Elements filter could use some improvements.

If you are looking to deliver a project that has a high level of detailing and free clashes, Navisowrk is the go-to software as it offers specific tools to solve these clashes. Its 3D viewing of the compiled project helps the engineer to determine the best way to fix the clash that is present at hand.
Navisworks is used for MEP/BIM coordination on commercial construction processes. It is used to pull in the different 3D computer-generated models from the design team, consultants, and subcontractors to coordinate the MEP routing through the building. We have been experimenting as a company with some 4D modeling and logistics planning with Navisworks as well.
Pros
BIM/MEP Coordination
Clash Detection
Cons
Difficult to navigate models at times
Overkill of toolsets at times

Naviswork is a must-have for medium to large scale construction projects. Navisworks can be taught to most engineering and field construction employees at a level where they can be efficient with it. It is easy to take the finished product from multiple different users (companies) and merge them into one Navisworks model for review. It is easy to tweak, hide, and pull apart 3D models.

We use it in teams to do service coordination and model verification.
Pros
Model coordination. Navisworks supports a large number of file formats.
Easy search tools to find model portions.
Very good appearance profiler to set up configurations for view properties.
Cons
A link to BIM 360 Model Coordination is a serious shortcoming. It used to be easy to link to models loaded to BIM 360 Glue for more in depth clash detection.
I would have liked the ability to export a simulation created in Navisworks to 3DS Max for a more immersive animation with decent material mapping and better animation tools.
I would like to be able to view/create BIM 306 Docs/Field issues directly in Navisworks. In the current workflow we have to use other file formats to work within BIM 360. It would be more productive to be able to navigate the model through Navisworks and to create viewpoints and issues from within Navisworks.

Navisworks makes it easy for non Revit users to navigate a model, and the file is light enough to use on any hardware. If the file is saved as an NWD file there is no danger of the user "breaking" the model, and could work with confidence, and with a federated model it's possible to create very large integrated systems.
For Clash Detection and model visualization, it solves for integrating multiple different stakeholders into one platform where conflicts can be identified. The Virtual Construction Department are heavy users of the software. However, many non-VDC people are using Navis to get a grasp on what a project really looks like.
Pros
Saved viewpoints.
Search sets.
Navigation.
Cons
Saved viewpoints sometimes don't work across different users with different versions (especially newest version).
Clash grouping is cumbersome. It gives me carpal tunnel in the wrist.
Sometimes viewports and clipping plans can get funky and mess up the view.

It's well suited for running coordination meetings. It's not well suited for large merged models or point cloud data.
Arden Building Companies is Design/Build MEP/FP Firm. We use Navisworks to coordinate Designs, communicate with clients and perform Clash Detection for our Construction Projects. We use this software across all four of our companies. There is no better way to explore a building virtually than with Navisworks. It is such a powerful program that reads so many different file types. It is the ultimate collaboration tool in the AEC Industry.
Pros
Section buildings to explore virtually
Clash Detection among building elements and disciplines
Communication tool
Cons
I do not have any cons for this software

Navisworks is the ultimate collaboration tool. This is why it is such a powerful program in the Architecture, Engineering & Construction field. There is a free viewer called Freedom for clients that do not require the full version but can still explore their building. There is not a construction project that would not benefit from using this software.
I work for a large mechanical contracting firm and we are awarded lots of extensive jobs that require heavy amounts of coordination. Our primary tool is Revit and we use Navisworks as a viewer for portrayal to the field and owners what the building will look like in future phases. We can easily call out all clashes through detection tests and manage screen captures through the viewpoint functionality which saves the field time and money.
I would recommend this tool for all firms that work in the BIM industry but would like to see Autodesk make some changes to the product. Unlike Revit and AutoCAD, every time Navisworks is updated it seems to remain the same with no improvements.
Pros
Clash detections
Sectioning and measuring tools
Saved Viewpoints folder management system
Cons
User Interface has remained the same for at least the last 8 releases. Something new would help users feel like Autodesk didn't forget about this software.
The amount of time it takes to export larger Revit files as an NWC is the biggest drawback which is no fault of Navisworks but if they figured out how to incorporate a "Live Sync" function I believe users would fall in love.

If you are pre-fabricating or simply looking to give your field dimensional drawings you should be using Navisworks as a 3D viewer to confirm there are no clashes between MEPFP trades and the Arch / Struct models. This will save loads on time and materials in the end. This tool is the main reason why our large scale pharmaceutical, educational, industrial and medical projects are so successful.
As a BIM Engineer, we did the modeling of metro stations, substations. Navisworks helps us to combine all the models i.e architecture, structure, electrical together for collaboration and do thorough clash detection at the early stage of our design so that we can remove the clashes by combining all the models and design a clash-free model.
Pros
Clash detection
Collaboration
Simulation
Cons
The free version of Navisworks is unable to append new files.
One thing about Navisworks is that it doesn't have the facility to go to the 3D view of a particular area, autodesk may take a look over that.
Sometimes it shows many clashes for a single clash thus increasing the number of clashes in the final report.
Likelihood to Recommend
As Navisworks is available in two versions i.e Navisworks Manage and Navisworks Simulate, the best features of Navisworks Manage is that we are able to know about the clashes of complex models which is hard to know in revit. It detects collision over the design of different models and thus improving the coordination and avoiding costly remedies after the final design and construction stage.
