Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have multiple Autodesk products like Revit, Autocad, Inventor, plus dealing with other 3D parts provided my other 3D solutions. Also, we have step file, iges files, etc. We use Navisworks to open multiple of these software to see how they look like together. We also do the collision detection which is a very useful feature.

It's very good and fast to see an overall picture of a big assembly that is made of different 3D files. It is very easy to navigate with it in real time. It has a lot of tools that makes easy to review complex assemblies. Also, I like the commenting feature, measurements, viewpoints, etc

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have used Navisworks to look at electrical drawings and to further clarify the location of specific lights during a project. Our company is a lighting vendor so I have used Navisworks to communicate with our contractors to clarify where our product is to be placed within the building. I find it incredibly useful especially when there has been confusion in the past about lighting placement and what is required.

Navisworks is an essential tool if doing any 3D model coordination, and that helps incredibly when coordinating with other trades. Navisworks comes with a lot of tools to make navigation and coordination easy. I truly believe there is not a construction project that would not benefit from using this software.

Navisworks is being used across the whole organization. It helps our numerous teams for clash detection purposes in BIM services. We can easily navigate through the 3D model and look out for any problem in the building model. Also, we can run clash detection in almost any category of elements and resolve the issues that might affect while actually constructing a building. It has whole lot of options to play with 3D models and finalize a building design and its MEPF services.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Naviswork is usually used throughout all design offices within all departments. It helps engineers bring all Revit models together and figure the LOD and the intensity of clashes at the final stages. It is mainly used to determine the interdepartmental clashes that occur throughout the design stage and aims to mitigate these clashes, it also helps to navigate the compiled Revit models.

Cons

The ability to fix multiple (similar clashes) at once needs to be adopted and fully integrated.
Elements filter could use some improvements.

We use Navisworks in our VDC department for all visual 3d coordination needs. We also use Navisworks to create supplemental visuals to accompany RFI's and other submissions as needed to support other divisions within the company making their jobs easier. A Visual goes a long way to help explain the issue at hand.

Navisworks is well suited for building and maintaining your various model revisions in one place. The model is easy to update. Systems are easy to separate out and isolate to really dig into the various aspects of each model. Individual pieces or entire systems can be color coded to help differentiate between items.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Navisworks is used for MEP/BIM coordination on commercial construction processes. It is used to pull in the different 3D computer-generated models from the design team, consultants, and subcontractors to coordinate the MEP routing through the building. We have been experimenting as a company with some 4D modeling and logistics planning with Navisworks as well.

Naviswork is a must-have for medium to large scale construction projects. Navisworks can be taught to most engineering and field construction employees at a level where they can be efficient with it. It is easy to take the finished product from multiple different users (companies) and merge them into one Navisworks model for review. It is easy to tweak, hide, and pull apart 3D models.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Navisworks in our building information modeling department, largely it is used for coordinating our mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and fire trades prior to the building being built. This allows us to prefabricate a lot of the things we do that otherwise would have to be measured and built after the structure is up. This streamlines our construction schedule and reduces costs from re-work since we have routes figured out prior to install so we don't have to worry about redoing something when things don't fit. It also is used by our self perform concrete department to plan concrete lift drawings, concrete estimates and embed layouts. This has made things significantly easier for our self perform crews and has greatly reduced the amount of mistakes that are made.

Pros

Model Viewing, the navigation tools are really easy to use for walking through the model, especially if viewpoints are set up for key locations.
The take-offs work really well and can be very quick and easy if the model was built right.

Cons

I think the biggest con to Navisworks is that it has a pretty steep learning curve, the basics are pretty straightforward but getting into the advanced features does require a bit more time dedicated to learning.
I would like to see bit less lag while navigating the larger files and models but overall it is not too bad.

I think Navisworks performs really well for coordination and viewing. The ability to detect and address clashes between trades before the actual construction work begins is invaluable for a successful project especially when it is larger in size. I have also seen some great benefits from having trades and management professionals be able to jump in and view a model of a coordinated room or space and be able to visualize or even measure things before the work begins or as work is in progress.

Suitable for large size projects with lots of MEP work. Also suitable when there are more than one designers on the job. When customers want visuals for the progress, I recommend using Navisworks to impress them.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it for coordination in both design and construction phase. We are using it in our department and manage the coordination process on multiple projects with large project teams. The business case is that it is accepted as standard by the industry so it is easy to get people on board.

File sizes are small which enables easy distribution

Cons

Clash reporting is very limited.
Tracking solutions and responsibilities almost non-existent
Not cloud based
Dated compared to contemporary software

Likelihood to Recommend

Coordination with Subcontractors as most of them use the software and with clients that do not allow cloud hosted workflows. Massive projects with large sets of files. It is not so well suited for 4D scheduling and sequencing animations as the workflows are clunky and does not seems to be a priority for Autodesk. The quantity takeoff tools is difficult to use.
