Great to ensure trustworthiness of your data.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

To support a wide variety of customer journeys, we collect user behavior data from our apps, backend, and external services. mParticle helps us to ensure we have accurate and trustworthy data to drive those journeys. It checks all incoming customer data to match our data plan and only forwards data that is valid. All or parts of the data are then forwarded to external services we use for user behavior analysis, sending customer journey notifications, and many more.

Pros

  • Ensure trustworthiness of data.
  • Connect different data sources at a central point.
  • Allow to define where data should be sent to.
  • Debug any data related issues that come from bugs in internal or external services.

Cons

  • Some documentation can be improved — incredibly best practices when connecting external services.

Most Important Features

  • Data Plan.

Return on Investment

  • Engineering time and time spent testing new data tracking have been greatly reduced.
  • Switching to a new setup for our user behavior analysis tool was done within one day. Thanks to backfilling support and easy setup within mParticle's dashboard.

mParticle Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

This is our main customer data platform where we funnel multiple data sources into specific downstream tools/platforms.

Pros

  • Ease of setting up connections
  • Consistent data flow
  • No missing data issues

Cons

  • Support - often times it feels like they're trying to create a sales opportunity rather than actually provide support - whether it's technical or non-technical.
  • Some connection setups are not as consistent with respect to the procedure of setting up the connection, e.g. setting user identities in Braze.
  • Audiences...definitely not as robust as Amplitude

Most Important Features

  • More options for data connections
  • Consistent data flows
  • User behavior deep dives

Return on Investment

  • This might be less of an issue with mParticle, but often times we found ourselves troubleshooting discrepancies between what mParticle showed vs downstream analytics platforms, more so than troubleshooting the issue itself.
