This assessment synthesizes insights from 6 recent reviews of MobaXTerm, covering overall satisfaction, strengths, weaknesses, and business impact. MobaXTerm primarily serves as a consolidated terminal solution, offering access to local and remote servers via protocols like SSH, SFTP, TELNET, FTP, and TFTP. A key benefit, cited by 5 of 6 reviewers, is its ability to simplify server access, often replacing tools like Putty. Reviewers also appreciate the productivity gains derived from features such as the graphical SSH browser and tabbed terminal emulator; 2 of 6 reviewers specifically mentioned this benefit.

While MobaXTerm delivers efficiency and cost savings, there are areas for improvement. A recurring concern, mentioned by 3 of 6 reviewers, involves the GUI and overall usability, with some finding it complex for new users and somewhat dated. Update processes and tunneling configurations were also cited as unintuitive by 2 of 6 reviewers. Despite these usability concerns, the tool's positive impact on business objectives is evident, with 4 of 6 reviewers noting improvements in efficiency and time savings, and 3 of 6 highlighting cost savings and overall value. The efficiency gains appear to directly contribute to the perception of value.

In summary, MobaXTerm offers a strong value proposition for users seeking a consolidated terminal solution, particularly those prioritizing efficiency and cost savings. However, potential buyers should be aware of the reported usability issues and consider the learning curve associated with the interface and update processes.

  • Simplified server access via multiple protocols (SSH, SFTP, TELNET, FTP, TFTP) in one tool.
  • Improved efficiency and time savings, as reported by 4 of 6 reviewers.

Great product and well worth the cost for management

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It gives us an easy one pane of glass program to access our servers and critical computers in the business. We also are able to do updates to our networking equipment with one command instead of going through them one at a time.

Pros

  • Program layout
  • Speed
  • multiexec
  • tons of options

Cons

  • password manager is a pain to get to
  • when I sign out of an RDP session, the tab should close on its own. If I lose connection, then the Reconnect option can be shown
  • It should be able to update on its own, not through download and basically a reinstall

Likelihood to Recommend

It works great for system admins to be able to have quick access to all endpoints they wish to keep track of. We use it to update configs on our Cisco networking equipment all at once, which saves tons of time.

I can't imagine a scenario where this wouldn't be helpful outside of the level of user who could have access. If there were a centralized management structure for deploying this to an IT team, then it would scale to almost any situation.

  • SFTP filesystem browser is simple and straightforward

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our company is web service agency and we have access to quite a lot of servers for different clients. There both Windows and linux servers, meaning that you need different tools in order to connect to them.
To make things worse, you have to group them and remember which server does what and which credentials to use for them.

MobaXTerm solves this issue easily.

Pros

  • SSH server connection
  • RemoteDesktop connections
  • Grouping of servers to folders
  • Tabbing interface with ability to move windows outside
  • Remembering passwords

Cons

  • Tunnneling configuration is not so easy to use - would be nice to update it
  • Automatic updates

Likelihood to Recommend

MobaXTerm is good if you want to have list of servers and want to easily manage them and connect to them from the same interface. This is especially good for solo developers

MobaXTerm might be not work if you want to share list of connections to the large team with granual control of what can see which server.

  • Single or multiple SHH sessions at the same time.
  • Variation of Session type for all kinds of sessions.

MobaXTerm shines when executing commands for large numbers of Network appliances like Switches or routers. As network Engineers, when managing an extensive infrastructure, we need tools to reduce time and work. MobaXterm Split and MultiExec features helped me push configuration changes for more than 100 Switches within a few hours.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I used to use Putty for managing network switches, then I came across MobaXTerm. It was a game changer, I'm able to keep all of my network switches neatly organized. I can push out commands simultaneously and easily save output. Everything opens in a tabbed environment, it takes almost no system resource and all connections can be backed up.

Pros

  • Easy to use GUI
  • Saves passwords for SSH Sessions
  • tabbed environment
  • has a portable version
  • session management is great!

Cons

  • Change the color of the text
  • the GUI could use an update, it looks a little dated

Likelihood to Recommend

This is the Swiss army knife for any IT administrator. It has support for a myriad of protocols. It even has SFTP support, VNC and XDMCP. The cost of the license is very reasonable, their support is responsive and they continue to develop the software. Depending on your use case, it also has support for macros and scripts.
