A lost opportunity.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Microsoft Copilot became the go to tool when using the Microsoft office suite. It helps with Excel spreadsheets and formatting PowerPoints. It is great to automate some functions on outlook and take notes on Teams. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it is not that good for coding anymore. The competition took over and I think Microsoft Copilot is now way behind of other tools from OpenAI, Claude and xAI

Pros

  • Automate Excel spreadsheets
  • Format PowerPoints
  • Automate Outlook

Cons

  • Coding
  • Integration with non-Microsoft tools
  • Better knowledge base

Return on Investment

  • Lost time using it while coding
  • For me, results are unreliable
  • In my experience, can't handle big tasks

Usability

Microsoft Copilot

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Microsoft Copilot in various departments. For technical departments, it's primarily used to quickly find a specific answer to an IT issue, for analysis, or to provide support for quickly obtaining answers. This saves a tremendous amount of time. Another powerful application is retrieving data from various sources and combining or editing it to achieve the desired end result. This has a wide range of applications, from presentations to technical overviews and everything in between.

Pros

  • Good analysis of the ticket system at the service desk, so that this can be anticipated properly
  • For the management of IT environments, quick examples of scripting for desired solutions
  • For consultants and managers, they co-pilot a technical report into language understandable to a non-technical client, including a visual summary.

Cons

  • There is improvement in approach and integration of external or third-party solutions
  • For administrators, Copilot is sometimes not transparent enough to see exactly what it's doing. There's no real auditing visible at a deeper level.
  • If a whole conversation has already been held with copilot, it can sometimes be difficult or impossible to refer back to it at a later time

Return on Investment

  • Service desk employees resolve some tickets much faster thanks to Copilot support. This percentage, according to current knowledge, is between 20% and 30%.
  • For administrators, creating scripts and automations with Copilot support saves them a significant amount of time. This currently stands at between 20% and 40%.
  • If you don't give the copilot proper instructions, you'll also get answers that aren't valuable. You do need some knowledge or training to get the right answers from the copilot.

Microsoft Copilot - Not Your Best Employee

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We attempt to use Microsoft Copilot for everything we possibly can, including the integrated version with all of our M365 products (ie. Teams, Powerpoint, Word, Outlook etc.). We are still testing its limits, so I tend to try lots of things in there from create a poster, to create balanced sales territories in excel based on budgeted sales and geographies of customers.

Pros

  • Summarizing meetings from Microsoft Teams, including action items
  • Suggesting alternate or more professional text in Microsoft Word or Outlook
  • Writing basic code such as SQL or python

Cons

  • Creating a poster or image with text
  • Complicated excel spreadsheet generation, even with the new "think deeply" functionality
  • In my opinion, hallucinations and lies are rampant

Return on Investment

  • None that I can quantify so far.
  • Sentiment in the business seems to be that it's "neat"
