Endpoint Central is a great product to support your IT ecosystem

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We leverage almost all features of EndPoint Central to manage our endpoints, all operating systems are supported. The product allows you to deploy patch, packages, a self-service portal is available to the users, you can monitor encryption, manage inventory (software and hardware) as well as application blacklisting/whitelisting. It successfully achieves the goal of controling, operating maintenances and remotely managing our endpoints.

Pros

  • Deploying packages and maintaining our software up-to-date
  • Collecting hardware and software inventory
  • Generating reports (OOTB or Custom)
  • Offering tons of features in a single interface

Cons

  • The patching and vulnerability management features provides misconfigurations reports but is not always helpful as of how to fix it
  • The patch management feature doesn't really allow you to exclude and justify why, sometimes products can't be patched but a remmediation exists
  • The dashboard of vulnerabilities take into accounts all machines which create a false sentiment of being behind while some machines might be off for a long time for a reason (only way is to delete them which makes you lose track of the asset in your inventory)
  • The whitelisting feature will find thousands of applications, there is no convenient way to go around and to whitelist them without spending hours and hours on it
  • The encryption/bitlocker feature doesn't allow to encrypt the device remotely

Return on Investment

  • Positive impact in helping IT patch more effectively as well as bring dashboards to oversee the state of the overall IT assets
  • Negative impact is minor as we would want additional features which will help with our user acceptance when patching their environment
  • Another aspect is that Manage Engine doesn't take into account when you have multiple of their products, and this is unfortunate as one might expect discount granted you are a loyal customer and are investing time and money into their products (as well as providing quality feedbacks for them to improve)

Efficient Endpoint Management with Strong Security Benefits

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a cybersecurity analyst, I primarily use ManageEngine Endpoint Central for patch management and script deployment for security use-cases. The tool allows us to automate the deployment of security updates across endpoints, ensuring systems remain compliant and protected against vulnerabilities. Its centralized dashboard provides visibility into patch status, missing updates and compliance reports.ManageEngine Endpoint Central addresses the challenge of keeping the endpoints consistently updated and secure.

Pros

  • Automates OS and third-party patch management, reducing manual effort.
  • Provides clear dashboards and reports for compliance and audits.
  • Remote management and troubleshooting.

Cons

  • Script setup and configuration can be complex and time-consuming
  • Some features, such as declined list for family applications do not always work properly.
  • User interface could be more intuitive, use of chatbots.

Return on Investment

  • Saved significant time on patch deployment and endpoint maintenance, improved compliance reporting, and reduced vulnerability risks.
  • Initial setup required extra effort, but overall the efficiency gains outweighed this.

Best bang for the buck

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ManageEngine Endpoint Central has allowed our business to wrangle in all of our assets, track them, manage them, and capture meaningful data for us to report on. It offers a wide range of tools and customizations at a reasonable price. It's integrations with the other many Manage Engine toolsets is also a nice plus.

The two negatives that I can think of are the issues with getting image capturing/deployment working and patch management. They seem to be very powerful and capable features, but have been struggling to get them working in our environment. I'll be working with the extremely supportive and helpful support team. I just need to make time for it.

Pros

  • Endpoint management
  • Reporting
  • Data capturing
  • Useful utilities
  • Meaningful data collection

Cons

  • OS Image Deployment
  • OS Image Capturing
  • Patch Management

Return on Investment

  • Helps with OS rollout and capturing status utilizing dashboards.

ManageEngine Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ManageEngine in a range of 550 users for approximately the same number of computers. It helps us everyday. We are able to see a lot of informations about devices without even disturbing the end user. We also use it to troubleshoot remotely every computer that is managed. ManageEngine offers a lot of functionnalities and even though it is really useful to us, I think we are not using more than 15% of its full capacity. Today, we can do, see, check anything by just logging in to our console and fetch the informations needed.

Pros

  • Remote control sessions
  • Mobile Device Management
  • Security Reports (Threats and patches)
  • OS Deployment

Cons

  • The UI, it is really good but I think being able to customize it more would be great
  • Improve the scripts behind the buttons, sometime they just don't work

Return on Investment

  • Management
  • Security
  • Remote troubleshooting
