ManageEngine Endpoint Central Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use ManageEngine Endpoint Central for multiple reasons in my organisation. Some examples are: software deployment, troubleshooting support and real time insights/reporting on our devices. Previously, when supporting our customers, this was a challenge as we had to use multiple tools and applications which was time consuming and difficult. ManageEngine Endpoint Central has resolved this by giving us all the tools we need such as remote control and troubleshooting features, all in one centralised area. Overall this has really improved our customer service.

Pros

  • It provides a professional remote control feature that allows you to connect to devices and remotely support. This also includes useful features such as: being able to screen record or use command prompt all within the same session.
  • The software deployment feature is seamless and provides silent installing which means user's dont require any significant downtime. This along with being able to do this via groups makes it very easy to push out any software that is needed and saves us a lot of time.
  • ManageEngine Endpoint Central allows us to maintain and manage our stock of mobile devices/phones with ease. Being able to push apps all from one central area makes its very useful when apps are missing from devices. The security features are also extremely helpful. Being able to remotely lock a device if it's lost and needs to be found makes sure it's secure during this period of time. But also, if it cant be found, the remote wipe feature means all customer data is completely wiped and protected from exposure.

Cons

  • When I first started using ManageEngine Endpoint Central, the UI felt very complicated and cluttered up, which means as a new user, it took a lot of time to get used to using it and knowing where certain features are. This was also because specific features aren't obvious to the user, it can take time to find them through multiple routes.
  • When pushing out specifc software to a large number of endpoint devices such as 1500 in my organisation, the deployment fails a lot more meaning some devices dont receive the software and this has to be done manually for them. This can take a lot of time.
  • When an issue is reported about ManageEngine Endpoint Central, for example it constantly crashing when being heavily used. The support was delayed and it took a lot of time for first line support to address the issue and escalate it.

Return on Investment

  • We have been able resolve and complete any requests which include things like software deployment or issues that include troubleshooting, much faster and more efficiently. This has had a sharp decrease in our response times and also time it takes to complete these requests or incidents.
  • The mobile device management features have allowed us to be able to have a much tighter grip on security. This means we have dramtically decreased our device vulnerabilities and risk of data breaches. This has saved us lots of time and money.
  • The remote features that are available have helped a lot with user's being able to work remotely and allow our organisation to sustain hybrid work. It means user's can still be as productive and IT support is as efficient no matter where the user is working.

Endpoint Central is a great product to support your IT ecosystem

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We leverage almost all features of EndPoint Central to manage our endpoints, all operating systems are supported. The product allows you to deploy patch, packages, a self-service portal is available to the users, you can monitor encryption, manage inventory (software and hardware) as well as application blacklisting/whitelisting. It successfully achieves the goal of controling, operating maintenances and remotely managing our endpoints.

Pros

  • Deploying packages and maintaining our software up-to-date
  • Collecting hardware and software inventory
  • Generating reports (OOTB or Custom)
  • Offering tons of features in a single interface

Cons

  • The patching and vulnerability management features provides misconfigurations reports but is not always helpful as of how to fix it
  • The patch management feature doesn't really allow you to exclude and justify why, sometimes products can't be patched but a remmediation exists
  • The dashboard of vulnerabilities take into accounts all machines which create a false sentiment of being behind while some machines might be off for a long time for a reason (only way is to delete them which makes you lose track of the asset in your inventory)
  • The whitelisting feature will find thousands of applications, there is no convenient way to go around and to whitelist them without spending hours and hours on it
  • The encryption/bitlocker feature doesn't allow to encrypt the device remotely

Return on Investment

  • Positive impact in helping IT patch more effectively as well as bring dashboards to oversee the state of the overall IT assets
  • Negative impact is minor as we would want additional features which will help with our user acceptance when patching their environment
  • Another aspect is that Manage Engine doesn't take into account when you have multiple of their products, and this is unfortunate as one might expect discount granted you are a loyal customer and are investing time and money into their products (as well as providing quality feedbacks for them to improve)
