Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As operations manager we use Motive for our planning, location tracking, servicing, safety and logbook management. being able to integrate all of these functions helps streamline our operation and the added fuel card allows cost tracking for each vehicle. We have Motive running on a large screen, so we all know the location of our branch vehicles. We can have service schedules added and keep track of the drivers logbook and safety. The cameras allow for added safety, both for the driver and the public at large. The Motive program is easy to use and has a range of tools to suit most operations.

We use Motive on a day-to-day basis. The product helps us keep track our trucks, trailers, and drivers. We are able to make sure our team stays safe by using the product as well as track our assets in order to make educated business decisions. The product is used across our company for operations, sales, maintenance, finance, and safety.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Motive for the ELD, fuel cards, and for drivers to receive their dispatches. We use Motive outward facing dashcams to coach drivers on unsafe driving habits as well as to give positive feedback on safe habits. Drivers are also able to upload documents for safety, compliance, and maintenance.

Pros

  • ELD- alerts drivers when they are close to their hours of service, ensuring they stay compliant
  • Dashcams- allows us to provide feedback and coaching to drivers on things that need addressed as well as things that are going well
  • Customer Service- drivers and fleet personnel can chat with customer serviced. Resolutions are provided very quickly and efficiently.

Cons

  • Fuel card- would like for there to be a real time alert if a fuel card is trying to be used fraudulently
  • Updates- drivers would like notifications within the app letting them know that they need to update the app
  • Customizable volume for dashcams- would like to be able to adjust volume ourselves for dashcam alerts

Motive Review - From sales to implementation

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Motive to integrate their safety features and coaching into our culture. Their product currently addresses our drivers poor behaviors but also gives us insight into their positive behaviors so we can reward those as well. We are currently trialing their Omni camera on our forklifts as well as trialing their Asset Gateway. I am looking forward to getting asset utilization to see if we are able to adjust our trailer or forklift fleet size.

Pros

  • AI event detection is top notch (We trialed side by side with Samsara)
  • Tech forward. Motive is moving in the right direction and they deploy a lot of resources to get them there. Their road map is why we partnered with them.
  • Motive are true partners. From flexibility and support on the trial to contract negotiations, through implementation we have really been given the white glove treatment. It really is hard for me to say anything negative about my experience.

Cons

  • One of the features I find frustrating to use is adjusting speed limits. Sure, when someone breaks a speed limit and it gives me an event I can go into the event and easily adjust the speed limit, but ONLY FOR THAT SECTION they sped in. If I need to adjust the speed limit for the whole road, thats another matter entirely. We work in the middle of no where so I have noticed there have been more examples of this than I would like. But I also understand they get their speed limit data the same as every other service so its not like Motive is behind, just limited to the data they receive.
  • I would like to be able to determine event criticality so that any event I want to be automatically assigned as "coachable" will be. Also in regards to the events page, I would like to see a way to select multiple events (maybe some check boxes to select the ones you want) and be able to assign them all to "coachable" or dismissed". Especially during implementation we are getting a lot of "obstructed view" and this is not going to count against their score, we just want to dismiss them after seeing who it is so we can address it. But we get 10 or 12 for each person and have to go into each one individually... It is just a little time consuming and I think the multi select functionality fixes that.
  • Currently maintenance reminders use engine hours OR miles. I would like to see the capability of using both. for example, a good estimate is 1 hour of engine idle time is equivalent to 30 miles driven. So if we set a 10,000 mile maintenance alert, I would want that to include the actual odometer reading (lets say 7,000 miles) and add the engine hours to miles conversion, lets say it has 100 idle hours (100x30 = 3,000). Hope that makes sense.
