What is Infogram?

Infogram is an online tool for creating infographics, charts, dashboards, and interactive reports. Users can upload spreadsheets containing the data they want to visualize, or set up a live integration from another data source using the Infogram API. From a graphics and layout perspective, Infogram includes a library of stock images, icons, etc. (or users can upload their own) and a drag and drop editor.

Pros

  • It is specifically made for the creation of infographics and it excels in this field.
  • It provides the novice user with many beautiful templates, easing the learning process.
  • It integrates with many databases, making the infographic dynamic always up-to-date.

Cons

  • As with other web-based apps, you need a reliable internet connection.
  • Sometimes you really wish to have more control over some graphics, to make finer tweaking.
  • The price for the pro version (the lower tier above free) is currently at 19 USD/month when billed annually, which can be a bit much if you don't need to use Infogram regularly.

Return on Investment

  • It reduced greatly the time spent in creating visual communication pieces for social media.
  • It helped to integrate up-to-date information in our design.
  • It made our business reports richer with infographics, enhancing the readers' satisfaction.

Pros

  • Very rich graph library
  • Very easy to use
  • Beautiful graphs in terms of design
  • Animated graphs for online presentations
  • Free plan has many features

Cons

  • I gave it a 10 for a reason....
  • Some graphs could have more features to change their appearance (but perhaps then it wouldn’t be as simple)
  • Should have a better way to copy and paste to another app

Return on Investment

  • Has a free user option and it is faster and easier to build great graphical graphs.
  • Now I don’t have to ask design guys to make me a fancier graph for a presentation.
  • After the first graphs are made I can reuse them for the next month's presentation.

Pros

  • Intuitive, friendly interface that is actually fun to work with and makes data visualization less intimidating. Easy for non-technical people to master
  • A wide variety of visualizations, charts, and graphic elements that continues to grow
  • Great compatibility. Easy to integrate with webpages, social media marketing, etc. and mobile-friendly
  • Saves a lot of time. You can have a professional-looking infographic or chart pretty quickly that is ready to share or embed.

Cons

  • If you want to create a very complex visualization this probably isn't for you, but this isn't really what Infogram is made for.
  • If you want to create a very customized design there are some limitations, you can't add any custom CSS, etc. Again, Infogram isn't really made for this.
  • You have to be online to use it.
  • You can't download your charts to use elsewhere (eg. add to a printed annual report) unless you have a Pro, Business, or Enterprise account.

Return on Investment

  • For my clients and organizations I have trained, having an easy-to-use tool they can get started with right away has improved their communications capacity and audience reach
  • It saves money, you'd spend a lot more for the same results if you hired a designer and/or developer.
  • Because you can get results very quickly, it improves response time to news events, etc. keeping your communications relevant.
