iDrive is a great solution to automate your backup needs that is reliable and at a great price point

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use IDrive Online Backup and Object Storage e2 to do a complete daily backup of all my computer data files along with data in my external hard drives and mobile phone for my small business which it does very well and reliably. The ability to automate this task for me so I can focus on running my business without having to worry about whether or not my data is safe and secure, I have no regrets about deciding to sign up and plan to continue to use this service for as long as I have a need for it.

Pros

  • Automates scheduled backups of entire data files along with external data storage sources such as hard drives and mobile phones.
  • Enables continuous data protection which backups data in frequent intervals such as real time in addition to the scheduled backups to ensure your data is always backed up.
  • Sends detailed status reports after each scheduled backup so you never have to worry if data was successfully backed up or if failed.
  • Offers multiple ways to backup your data which includes online backup, local backup to local destination such as an external hard drive, or to an express device sent to you by IDrive in which case you just send back with the data you want backed up and IDrive would take care adding to your account for you.

Cons

  • The app could use some smalls tweaks such as a more intuitive interface so the user has a clearer understanding of available features and options when navigating.
  • The mobile app seems glitchy at times and needs refinement
  • Overall backup speeds are slow at times and could use improvement and more consistency.

Return on Investment

  • Cost effective for my small business as I am able to manage and automate storage and backup needs with very little intervention and overwatch.
  • Only need one solution to back up all pertinent data from multiple sources

Usability

An ideal Cloud Backup solution.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

After getting tired of Cloud Based services I decided to get a NAS, and have that automatically backed up to the cloud.

Spent a few hours on 'best of' lists tried IDrive Online Backup and Object Storage e2 first because of the clarity of their offerings, example vids of folks setting up and using IDrive Online Backup and Object Storage e2, and their 30 Day Money Back guarantee. This way I could see if it did what I needed.

Thankfully, it was exactly what I needed! Didn't even have to try another, or even consider the 30 Day Money Back.

After creating my account, I installed the Windows Desktop App as well as the Asustor NAS App started selecting folders for backup.

Here's where I had the only moment of uncertainty - the App offers sa lot of flexibility with Local Drives, Mapped Drives, etc... I wasn't immediately sure what option I needed, but the App is intuitive enough that I eventually found exactly what I needed after clicking into the various sections.

So, chose files for my first back up, scheduled it, pressed 'Backup now' heard it reading from the NAS and in about half an hour I got an email summary of the backup. An ideal experience!

Pros

  • Intuitive Desktop & NAS App
  • Flexible Backup Type Options
  • Feedback on Backup Success

Cons

  • Desktop App could use a 'If you need this, choose this' kind of initial setup.

Return on Investment

  • Quick & Easy setup with no issues.
  • Lot's of storage space at a great price.
  • Peace of mind knowing my files are safely & securely backed up off site.

Affordable backup solution for large amounts of data

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As an event organiser and DJ in my leisure, I generate lots of graphic assets and video content. This content was primarily stored at home in a personal 4TB WD Cloud Home device, but I was looking for a solution that would let me back it up entirely. After carefully considering alternatives, such as ElephantDrive (which was natively integrated in my NAS unlike IDrive Online Backup and Object Storage e2), I opted for IDrive Online Backup and Object Storage e2 for the low price, high capacity, despite the minor inconvenience. I have a small Linux home server that has the NAS mounted through SMB, and I could set up the IDrive Online Backup and Object Storage e2 Linux client with ease and get to backup the entire NAS, so in the end the setup was not that complicated.

Pros

  • Affordable cloud backup
  • Managing backups remotely
  • High capacity
  • Linux client for servers that is easy to setup
  • MFA support

Cons

  • Slow uploads and backup process
  • Would like to see the ability to manage computers from the mobile app
  • They should work to integrate with more NAS manufacturers to provide a seamless experience
  • High CPU usage in the linux client during backups

Return on Investment

  • For individual users such as my case, the savings with the Personal plan are important compared to alternatives like ElephantDrive. For 5TB ElephantDrive costs $600/yr in the comparable Family plan, whereas IDrive Online Backup and Object Storage e2 costs only $99.50/yr.

Usability

First time with cloud storage? Save time, frustration and money with IDrive.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Managing my own backups for my small business became more of an issue as business grew and more data needed to be managed. As a small business owner careful budgeting is a key to success and thus we researched various source for cloud backup and storage, looking for a cost effective system with a user friendly interface and solid 24/7 live support. IDrive Online Backup and Object Storage e2 storage was selected and fully lived up to the advertised capabilities, ease of use, and rapid access to support. Our only need for support was to answer a technical question as to how to swap out one of our external drives for a new one. Support was available within 5 minutes by phone, the question answered, and drive swapped out.

Pros

  • Simple to use interface
  • Sufficient options for our needs
  • Very useful tutorial

Cons

  • Clearer explanation of how the desktop program interacts with the web based access site and which has priority over backup

Return on Investment

  • Cost effective for our small business as we no longer need outside expertise to set up and trouble shoot internal backup.
  • Moved to one networking internal data drive backing up to iDrive,

Review of IDrive

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

i use IDrive to back up my small home-based business. I back up once daily. It's very easy to use, and the daily confirmation emails are great. It's much better than my old back-up program which often didn't back up when it was scheduled to do so.

Pros

  • Sends daily confirmations of back-up.
  • Always backs up as scheduled.
  • Backs up very quickly.

Cons

  • I have not yet noticed any problem areas.
