A review as a relatively new adopter of IBM Targetprocess

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We've recently adopted IBM Targetprocess as our Enterprise Portfolio Management solution to help us with our view of strategy to execution. As an Organisation we recently moved away from one tooling supplier so hopefully can provide some objectivity to this review. We were keen to give visibility and transparency of our Change portfolio to become more data driven and facilitate the right conversations.

Pros

  • The UI is more intuitive than other suppliers and that is consistent feedback from our user population
  • We've really focused in on and leveraged the power of the integrations with our other SaaS solutions to create that version of the truth and avoidance of unnecessary and wasteful duplication of effort.
  • Dashboards are useful and spinning up new reports is relatively straightforward with basic knowledge of the tooling.
  • Being able to share the view to non users within the Organisation is a useful benefit.
  • I like the ability to be able assess data points within many of the visuals to simply validate and interrogate the data.

Cons

  • Having the ability to only open 3 windows at a time is an unnecessary constraint and hope IBM will get this on the change road map.
  • Excited to see what AI capabilities will be developed over time to create further Portfolio management efficiencies.
  • We're currently navigating support options which appear to differ by Apptio product so maybe room to create some consistency there as it's a little confusing.
  • If you use an implementation partner be sure to focus on knowledge transfer. It was important to us to be in control of the keys however you may have to drive this.

Likelihood to Recommend

IBM Targetprocess compares really positively top other solutions within the Market that I have used. For instance, with one supplier we were unsuccessful with integration for years, with IBM Targetprocess we'd proved connection and integration within a couple of months.

  • data model attributes were at time confusing
  • lack of immediate guidance when issue arose

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Targetprocess is something we are trying to implement to improve the agile process in our team to improve efficiency and productivity. The advantage of IBM Targetprocess is the visual boards and it helps us in visualizing details in a better manner and hence improve collaboration among the team. The other advantage is integration with other tools.

Pros

  • Integration with JIRA
  • Visual Boards
  • Integration with AI

Likelihood to Recommend

In terms of using IBM Targetprocess , we have a good experience in creating visual boards and dashboards. It helps in visualizing the process in a clear manner and helps us in improving the processes in our team.

Optimizing Workflows and Visibility Using IBM Targetprocess

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We widely use IBM Targetprocess tool for PI planning before starting the next quarter, OKR's planning, Working assignment to the engineers and cross team collaboration. This will help us to prioritize the tasks, track the dependencies, sprint planning , backlog grooming and delivery tracking. this will reduce the time and improve the productivity

Pros

  • PI planning, On Every quarter the identified taks have been tracked with it
  • This works well for backlog grooming
  • This will help us to manage the cross team deliverables

Cons

  • The UI is bit complex for new users who never used it. i think this can be sorted out by providing the steps to access?
  • dashboards with large datasets can cause performance lags or timeouts
  • Introduce more flexible, template-based RBAC configurations.

Likelihood to Recommend

Ideal for managing multiple Agile teams using SAFe or similar frameworks. Great for aligning strategic goals with execution using OKRs and Effective for tracking dependencies and progress across departments.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use IBM Targetprocess to manage dependencies and Track progrecc in a komplex SAFe based Development. Further we use it to create alignment using OKR.

Pros

  • Support PI Planning
  • Alignment / transparency with OKR
  • Roadmapping

Cons

  • more effective Portfolio Management functions
  • UI: Handeling of very large Planning Bords
  • High effort for Jira project integration

Likelihood to Recommend

Well Suited: Manage the flow of Work in a SAFe implementationEnterprise Agile TransformationsStrategic Portfolio Management, Cross-Team Collaboration Less: Small Teams or Simple Projects, Organizations Unfamiliar with Agile Frameworks, Large Datasets and Performance Issues, Integration Limitations, Limited item based access right management

Has promise but needs to be less complicated to use

Rating: 4 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have started using Targetprocess to create roadmaps for development teams to share during quarterly planning and for tracking and reporting on different work efforts. We intend to use it to track OKR progress in the future. We would like to use it more strategically, but haven't found that value yet.

Pros

  • Shows/syncs roadmaps with ADO delivery plans
  • Allows for different reporting for tracking work progress

Cons

  • Self-service in configuring new item types, workflows, automation. Requires us to pay a contractor to do these things.
  • Expensive to roll out to organization. We have to limit licenses to users to submit new Ideas, requiring us to define others ways to submit.
  • I'd like to see a metamodel of the way my company has Targetprocess configured of different entity types. The only model seems to be for Targetprocess data/meta-model.
  • Better training, documentation on how to create new entities, set up workflows and automations. The existing documentation only covers siloed topics and doesn't show how to do end-to-end setup of a new entity type. What is EVERYTHING I need to do, not just, how do I update an unused entity type to be what I want. What do I do after that to use it?

Likelihood to Recommend

Once configured, the sync between TP and ADO works pretty well, although it's duplicative (like roadmaps/delivery plans)
I like the ability to have a report that shows all the security-related issues and their status related to an Idea.
It's very confusing trying to set up a new entity type to receive IT-related requests.
The Quick Add popup is not helpful as I can't include all required fields. And if additional content is required that's not on the Quick Add screen, there is no obvious way to indicate to the user that they have to fill out more info and change the state of the item to submit the request. Users may fill out the quick add and assume the request has been submitted.

IBM Targetprocess for the win

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Targetprocess is currently been used within our Organisation to help us hold together, make visible and track all work and value that is developed and delivered within our Portfolio.

We find that no other tool allows us to consolidate work into easy to understand views, co-ordinate and predict business outcomes as well as well as make visible the strategy to execution to ensure alignment across the portfolio.

Pros

  • Consolidating and representing data in a meaningful and impactful manner
  • Simple UI, easy to navigate and the ability to edit and improve through mashups and detailed views
  • Automation and validations to ensure that we are able to workflow and monitor delivery of value across critical points

Cons

  • Definitely AI - Its needed to allow Users to better understand and interpret data
  • The ability to "upgrade" solutions opposed to un-install and re-install
  • Report functionality is great however is somewhat restricting, it would also be great to export reports to ppt - think power BI
  • Roadmapping functionality is limited - would be great if we could add blocks, shapes and elements to allow for better reporting (think powerpoint)
  • Navigation of views on the left can do with an improvement - it becomes messy rather quickly
  • Dashboards are not great especially when adding widgets and trying to filter between dashboard and widget. Overall there can be some improvements in this one

Likelihood to Recommend

It will definitely work in an environment where you want to measure and track delivery of work to business outcomes and make this work transparent and visible to all levels of the organisation

Its mainly an Agile tool - it can be used as a standard Project management tool however will require a bit of customisation
