Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Blueworks Live is used by ourselves to document ourbusiness processes and policies and then update them in a collaborative and organised manner. The scope is to store all our polices in the cloud which can be accessed and edited easily and simply via a web browser without having to configure specific servers or worry about additional software or licensing.

Pros

  • Allows for Collaboration
  • Simple to Use
  • Accessible in the Cloud

Cons

  • Export functionality could be improved / broadened
  • Pricing could be better
  • Import functionality (on initial integration) could have been simplified

Likelihood to Recommend

IBM Blueworks Live is well-suited for collaborative business process documentation. It allows us to visually design, analyze, and optimize a processes or policies in real-time. The version control is extremly useful when organising multiple documents.
It is particularly useful in early stages when a team of us want to hash out an idea or new process and there are several ideas we want to visualise and discuss.
It is not so well suited if you later want to take these policies outside of the IBM / Microsoft product suite.

Great for mapping & visualization, could be better for mobile/UI

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

My client relies on IBM Blueworks Live for streamlining their business processes. They've found it incredibly useful for mapping out workflows clearly and efficiently, which has been a big help in reducing misunderstandings and speeding up project timelines. It just keeps everyone on the same page, including myself with the client.

Pros

  • Process mapping and visualization
  • Documentation and standardization of processes
  • Ease of use

Cons

  • More advanced reporting and analytics options
  • A more modern user interface
  • Better mobile experience

Likelihood to Recommend

IBM Blueworks Live shines in environments where collaborative process mapping and standardization are key—ideal for teams looking to streamline workflows and maintain documentation centrally. May fall short for businesses needing deep system integrations or advanced analytics, and its mobile experience could be limiting for those heavily reliant on on-the-go access.

Great addition to the IBM suite, not worth it as a standalone

Rating: 4 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Blueworks Live is used as a business process modeler and management platform. It is generally forced onto customers on any large project that is led by IBM, since this is their standard solution for process modelling and helps their team deploy predefined templates and practices - as well as accelerating the project time-to-market.

Pros

  • Out-of-the-box integration with the IBM Suite
  • Intuitive and easy-to-use for any business analyst
  • Lots of options to work with Microsoft products

Cons

  • Pricing is prohibitive for any non-Large Enterprise customer
  • User experience is very dated
  • Not a true BPMN2 modeler so you'll have a hard time migrating to another solution later on

Likelihood to Recommend

It's hard to recommend a tool that does not follow the universal industry standard (BPMN2). Like Visio, it looks and feels like the standard is respected (shapes, naming convention, etc.) but Blueworks Live does not in fact follow any of it. It is a good tool for any company that is primarily looking at drawing diagrams (e.g., export them as images), as opposed to building live processes.
