A basic but effective solution for in/outbound texting and calls

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used Grasshopper as the principal call out and in/out bound texting service for our law firm. This was the alternative to using our personal cell phones which was really not working for us. Grasshopper allowed us to create some separation between person and business matters as well as creating more solutions for clients to send and receive information from our office.

Pros

  • Simple interface
  • Import contacts
  • Inbound and outbound messaging

Cons

  • Sync and updating of messages
  • Sync between devices

Likelihood to Recommend

Grasshopper is well suited for basic needs of texting in and out as well as calling out if you would like to avoid using your personal line. It also eliminates the need to have a dedicated land land in your office or business. You can obtain a vanity number and forward calls through grasshopper.

The easiest and most user friendly virtual phone system

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Grasshopper is a great way to manage calls coming in. You can set up extensions for different departments, say sales, billing, and tech support. After working with a client, if they call back and go to billing or support, I know what they are calling for beforehand. Same with a new client or prospect, I will know before taking the call. It helps manage surprise calls better.

Pros

  • Mobile app and desktop app
  • Converts your voicemails to text to read on a phone or desktop
  • Great custom auto-attendant feature

Cons

  • I'd love to see a 14-, 21-, or even 30-day trial

Likelihood to Recommend

Grasshopper is great for small businesses, startups, e-commerce businesses--anyone getting their business started and needing something very functional and effective to manage communications. You can get a new number from them--vanity, toll-free numbers too. And when you want to take a day off and go on vacation, they have a cool vacation mode feature (I think it's just muting or send calls directly to voicemail).

Like Having A Receptionist

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Grasshopper is being used throughout the organization. I use it to provide a professional phone number as well as identify why someone is calling based on the extension they select.

Pros

  • Answers my business phone for me.
  • Provides the opportunity to have a welcome greeting, extensions.
  • Takes voicemail messages for me.

Cons

  • It would be nice to be able to see who is calling. Right now the call shows up as my Grasshopper number.
  • Better set up of number of rings before going to voicemail. Seems I struggle with setting up the phone to ring on my cell long enough to determine if I should answer it.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think Grasshopper is great for small businesses/solopreneurs who want a business number outside of their cell number, and who want a more professional voicemail system. It is probably less appropriate for a business that wants their phone to be answered by a live person.

Grasshopper saves me time and lots of money and it helps my company make money.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Grasshopper to maintain consistency in contact information over time so that past customers have contact information that does not expire. I also use it to maintain direct contact between staff and customers no matter where a staff member may be or what time it is, they can be contacted immediately if required.

Pros

  • Allows you to keep a consistent phone number over time.
  • Allows instant contact between the customer and the business.
  • Easily replaces more cumbersome and expensive physical phone systems.

Cons

  • There is a bit of a learning curve in setting up systems, but that is not unusual for any system.
  • In years of experience, that's all I can come up with that poses any sort of problem!

Likelihood to Recommend

I have seen Grasshopper operate in a variety of businesses with success. I can't think of where it would be a poor choice.

Grasshopper is the only real option for small businesses.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Grasshopper as the main telephone service at my main desk for clients to contact. It is inexpensive compared to business landline services, I can take it with me since it forwards to my mobile phone, and using a virtual operator to direct calls has virtually eliminated the huge number of telemarketers and scammers that used to call the business, wasting my time.

Pros

  • Works well with mobile phones.
  • Easily set up a virtual operator/answering service and forward to unlimited departments/phone numbers.
  • Inexpensive compared to traditional business landlines.

Cons

  • There's a bit of a longer delay in voice transmission times since the calls are being picked up by Grasshopper and forwarded to you. On a Cell phone, that increases the lag in the time it takes the signal to go back and forth.
  • Honestly, I can't think of anything else that Grasshopper doesn't do well since I've started using it.

Likelihood to Recommend

I find it especially well suited to small businesses when people are on the road, or only have cellular phones. Since you can have the main phone number for your business with Grasshopper, you can set it up to forward to individual people's cells phones with ease using the virtual answering service.

We use Grasshopper to provide contact with our customers regardless if we are at the office or not. Some folks work remotely and this is the easiest way to provide seamless phone communication.

Pros

  • Easy setup
  • Multiple extensions with greetings per extension
  • Recorded calls if no one is able to answer

Cons

  • Sometimes the call gets forwarded to me and other times the app notifies that I have a voicemail waiting when I never received the call.

Likelihood to Recommend

Grasshopper is well suited for small businesses that need a phone system but don’t want an elaborate system installed.

Grasshopper is a great virtual phone solution for small businesses with easy extensions, call screening, and personalized greetings

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Grasshopper is an easy and affordable phone solution for our business. We've been using Grasshopper for over 9 years now. We use it with two numbers and multiple extensions that allow us to easily route calls to the appropriate place. Being a small team we don't want everyone constantly dealing with support over the phone. Grasshopper allows us to have personal extensions that will get our customers in touch with us directly when necessary, and have unknown calls go straight to voicemail so that they are not disturbing our team.

Pros

  • Easy routing to multiple phone numbers including mobile phones
  • Call screening and flexible extension directories
  • Ability to receive voicemails as emails with audio attachments

Cons

  • The web interface is outdated and could use a design update.
  • Voicemail transcription has an additional cost

Likelihood to Recommend

If you only need a single phone number and have no need for complex forwarding or extensions, then there is no need for Grasshopper. If you want more than that and need a professional setup for your business without the time and expense, Grasshopper is a great solution. No need to deal with expensive outdated hardware. Grasshopper is a virtual solution that will work with your employee's existing phone or smartphone.

Pros and cons of Grasshopper

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Grasshopper is very convenient and makes us mobile-friendly since we are always on the go.

Pros

  • Makes your phone like an 800 number.
  • Mobile access.
  • Ability to control the settings while being on the go.

Cons

  • Doesn't show the number calling, only shows your own number.
  • Sometimes tells us we missed a call when that was not actually the case.

Likelihood to Recommend

Grasshopper is well suited for those who work on the road and need the professionalism of having an 800 number but can't always be in the office.
