Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use the google authenticators instead of my work phone # because it is a better way to secure your account. I use the authenticator for the majority of the work-related accounts to have additional protection. With this additional protection, it is harder for other people to access my accounts and conduct fraudulent activities.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Google Authenticator as a two factor login for our Ubiquiti Dashboard. It is used by our IT department. We also use it for vendor secure portal logins. It is used by several of the sales and quality employees. The business problem is address is the extra layer of security needed for secure logins.

Pros

It is very easy to use and configure.
Easy install.
It has a great range of compatibility.

Cons

Interface is bland.
No availability of branding.
More training on importance of use.

Likelihood to Recommend

Google Authenticator is great for any two factor login scenario. If have an option to use it use it to consolidate all your two factor logins. Another scenario to where Google Authenticator is well suited is home use also, it can protect your personal gmail account. I would not recommend it when a company offers their own that syncs with their servers.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Google Authenticator is being used as a two-step authentication for user accounts. It provides another layer of security when logging into my user accounts and works similar to how two-step authentication using a text message verification code would work.

An extra layer of security for your user accounts
The two-step verification can be a code from your phone or a USB drive as a security key
Easy to use

Cons

Once you lose access to your device you will be locked out of whatever accounts that you had set up to use with this app
Can't transfer the codes to another device

Likelihood to Recommend

It's great as a device-specific security code for authentication and good for an employee or business user with a business phone, etc. It would be less appropriate for an everyday user that switches phones often, depends on multiple devices, etc.
