Use Cases and Deployment Scope

geoSCOUT is used in our daily geology workflow to gather information on currently producing and new wells and to understand competitor activity. Several departments are using geoSCOUT for research purposes and for understanding proximity to infrastructure.

Pros

  • Well ticket information.
  • Spatial analysis.
  • Query effectiveness.

Cons

  • Must have several geoSCOUT windows open at once (well ticket, main screen, others if using).

Likelihood to Recommend

GeoSCOUT is ideal for daily oil and gas workflows of a geologist or engineer or for academic research purposes. Great for fluid analysis and production data and for understanding rig activity.

GeoScout is great for basic subsurface geological needs

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

My department is using the program. Students have access to it within a few labs at the University. It is mostly used for research purposes and within classes.

Pros

  • Visualizing locations of wells—the map view has many customizable features.
  • visualizing cross sections.

Cons

  • Cross sections are not always that visually appealing. Cross sections from Petrel look much better.

Likelihood to Recommend

GeoSCOUT is well suited for basic subsurface geology. You cannot make 3D models like you can in other programs though.

Geoscout is a solid tool to assist in planning and development

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use geoSCOUT for production analysis of third party production, to help create type curves assist in A&D valuations, understand completion trends, and investigate facility infrastructure in order to understand development implications. We also use mapping functions to help coordinate development planning and help define our undeveloped reserves. Our geology team uses the tool for strip logs, tops, and exploration functions.

Pros

  • Production Analysis tool is strong for quick decline work
  • Annotations functionality helps with defining potential projects
  • Export tools are useful in quickly dumping out raw data for analysis

Cons

  • Looking at large scale projects (ie province wide) is very cumbersome
  • Pipeline mapping can be complicated
  • Including salivate imagery would be useful

Likelihood to Recommend

There are really only 2 tools in industry that have the function of geoSCOUT (the other being Accumap.) Both are similar. I'd recommend geoSCOUT for project/area specific work. I'd recommend Accumap for start-up companies who are trying to establish their 'playground' as it's easier to navigate province wide assets, whereas new maps are required for geoSCOUT.
