We use Constant Contact to keep in touch with our customer base (also internal newsletters) to provide updates about our company and work as well as gain their trust by providing consistent bits of information they find useful. We also use it to send surveys, both internal and external. We also use the event feature to promote company events and gather RSVPs.
Pros
Great customer support
Easy to use
Good reporting and clear to understand
Cons
I wish there was more design customization with layout/font/graphics stuff
Some event features could be improved with more customization for certain types of events
I don't like how it lets you keep editing for a bit before it warns you your changes aren't saved and forces you to log out. That's caused a lot of frustration

Overall I think it's very easy and a good value for what we've needed. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to keep in touch with their audience and have a more efficient way of communication. It helps if you already have a contact list, of course, where you can see data for who is most engaged. It's benefitted our internal communication a lot as well.

We have an event with over 600 attendees. We use this tool to alert all of our donors about the event, but then we can also segment the list to just those in attendance. This would not be possible from our database.

The contact and list features are easy to use, and the segmentation and reporting data on email engagement are helpful. However, the design capabilities are limited in some cases, so if the objective is to be more creative and beautiful, and that is the priority, this may not be the tool for you.
