We are an MSP who uses Automate to manage 3000+ endpoints. Automate handles Windows patching, alerting, remote access, among many other things for our business. It is our primary source of management for our users workstations and servers.
Pros
Manages Windows updates.
Alerting for offline servers.
Antivirus management.
Backup management.
Cons
Due to its many features, it seems some areas are a bit difficult to configure.
Likelihood to Recommend
Automate is useful for managing a large number of endpoints. It is a bit overkill if you have a smaller number of users. Automate can be used for a variety of things from managing your internal IT assets to managing thousands of customer endpoints.
Our organization uses ConnectWise Automate as a central point for end-user support and automation management. We leverage Automate as a scripting repository which provides us with the flexibility to apply configurations based on machine information such as installed applications, site where the machines are located at, and other parameters such as resources available. Automate allows us to 'script it once' and deliver many times, as a managed services provider, this is of crucial importance as it is a multitenant architecture which we can apply to all of our customers based on service tiers that they have signed up for.
Pros
Scripting.
Centralized configuration management.
Healthchecks.
Cons
The GUI interface is archaic.
Scripting engines could use work to be more PowerShell native.
Ability to work in VDI environments.
Likelihood to Recommend
ConnectWise Automate is well suited for physical PCs, laptops and virtual environments where VDI is not in the mix. It is well suited for HyperV environments but is lacking a bit in ESX and XenServer.
We are currently using Labtech to support our customers IT systems. For our larger customer's we provide Labtech as a service to augment our customers Internal IT operations. Labtech provides a framework for our automation of windows systems management, using its API we integrate our UNIX systems management as well
Pros
Labtech's scripting is some of the best we have used in the RMM market, while not as intuitive as others it is far more powerful
Labtech's Integration with Screenconnect makes connecting to many different systems quickly very easy
Cons
Labtech currently can not provide very fine-grained monitoring that is needed for monitoring HA systems
Labtech's scalability is limited by the hosting platform. a rebuild to use a more robust hosting platform in a scale out vs scale up methodology would be greatly preferred
Labtechs managment system
Likelihood to Recommend
Labtech is well suited for advanced MSP's it is a framework more than a solution. The time involved in setting it up is quite high compared to other RMM's we have used. The analogy i use to describe lab tech is it is an erector set, you can do just about anything you want with it.
It currently uses a windows-based console to access the system, We would prefer a full web console just for being able to access the system universally
We used LabTech for monitoring devices. It's very easy to use and very user friendly. It has been used a s apart of our core testing of the devices that are designed by our company.
Pros
Very user friendly.
Inexpensive as compared to others.
Good for a small sized company.
Cons
Make it good for larger networks.
Have more room to customize the dashboards.
Make it faster for a larger scale.
Likelihood to Recommend
LabTech would be more suited for the small sized company, it has to make improvements for larger companies or larger scale [use].
