A superb platform to learn practical skills in a digital world.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Codecademy from Skillsoft to develop our knowledge and skills in web design, web development, cybersecurity, and miscellaneous topics in data science. Our firm is delivering more digital content, compared to the prepandemic period, and none of us on the team received any formal training in information technology or coding. Codecademy from Skillsoft provides the resources for us to learn or improve skills necessary in a digital world - these resources are relevant, easily accessible, and effective.

Pros

  • The content is relevant to our projects, and therefore adds value to our goals.
  • The content is delivered in a way that is conducive to adult learning, e.g., chunked into bite-size amounts (not overwhelming), uses language that is easy to understand (no technical jargon), a good mix of didactic content and quizzes (the latter adds an element of interaction).
  • The user interface is logical and user-friendly.
  • Codecademy from Skillsoft makes it easy to track your progress, not only within a course, but also relative to your weekly target.

Cons

  • I would like to see more video content, including introductory videos (the latter tend to make the lessons feel more personal). Some people may learn better with videos, compared to text and images only.
  • Recommended reading lists may be helpful to those who want to gain a deeper understanding of the topics.

Likelihood to Recommend

Codecademy from Skillsoft is well suited to persons who wish to quickly acquire practical knowledge and skills that can be immediately applied to support their work or project. On the other hand, Codecademy from Skillsoft is probably not appropriate for those looking for a more theoretical approach to the subject matter.

Codecademy at a glance

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Codecademy helps me to brush up on skills that I have not used in a while engineering wise. For instance, recently I was tasked with building a python script to automate some excel sheet tracking of certain emails that are received. Codecademy helped tremendously here to help me get started on the basic python fundamentals needed to approach this task

Pros

  • Provides a very user friendly UI allowing for almost anyone to intuitively use the platform without many or any hiccups
  • Uses well-sourced teaching techniques to reinforce learning like spaced repetition
  • Allows and encourages self-paced learning so the individual can go as or as slow as they need

Cons

  • Would be nice to have a wider array of deep dives into different topics instead of a breadth focused approach
  • The paid version is too expensive given the price its asking for
  • Needs more of a community in order to facilitate learning and allow users to ask questions and get timely responses to the problems they encounter

Likelihood to Recommend

If you need to brush up on some topics I think that's an excellent use case. However, if there is a need for deep learning into any topic I would probably recommend a another resource that would go more in depth because the platform is more intuitive from a as you go quick learning style

We, as employees of this organization are able to continuously improve and monitor our coding skills and proficiency with regular challenges being updated on Codecademy from Skillsoft. Codecadamy, code training like doing the real thing

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Codecademy is a fabulous way to learn to code in many different languages and various technical skills. It's used to learn new code languages and updating previous knowledge.

Pros

  • Real world exercises
  • contents grouped by language and subjects
  • great documentation

Cons

  • Usability issues on small screen usage
  • Sometimes there's a bug at the interpreter, so the exercise can be correct but it isn't exactly what the interpreter is waiting.
  • It needs more code languages and updates to some, like Angular

Likelihood to Recommend

It is best suited for someone that has at least some basics skills on programming, the learning curve in that scenario is very flat, it's easier for them, for a beginner is a little harder, but not that much, has to read documentation and see the examples the code previously built.

Codecademy is a must-have for code upskilling!

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to help develop coding skills that we use to improve our efficiency in work tasks. Instead of using in house resources, we use Codecademy as an outsourced way to upskill our employees. It is a great tool.

Pros

  • Improving coding skills
  • Easy to onboard
  • Great value

Cons

  • Some limits on coding modules
  • Somewhat weak customer service
  • More promotions would be nice

Likelihood to Recommend

Codecademy is great for any organization that wants its employees or users to learn applicable coding skills. It is well suited for a variety of uses, including those for large organizations with many users, along with smaller organizations. It may be less appropriate for organizations that want to control the coding education in house.

Very good for beginner

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I teach first-year bachelor students Java, and when asked about extra exercises, I redirect them to Codecademy.

For students who are highly motivated and want to learn things outside the scope of my class, I redirect them toward the intermediate class

Otherwise, I suggest the introduction course.

Pros

  • Partially free
  • Lessons
  • Exercises
  • Quizz (paid version)

Cons

  • Price too high, students cannot pay 150 euro per year
  • There should be a way to pay for a single class, my student only cares about Java

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited:<div>Students who just started to learn to program and want to do some exercises/have a different perspective on a given topic

Not well suited:

An advanced programmer who wants to learn a new language/library.

I personally learned Python a while ago using Codecademy, but when I recently tried to use it for Javascript, it was not adapted for someone who knows to program in more than one language already.</div>
