Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cloudflare is an invaluable product in our company which we recommend to all our clients when we onboard them unless they already use it.
We make use of a variety of the services it offers, but mostly depend on the DNS, WAF and CDN capabilities.
Cloudflare helps the devops team daily to analyze traffic incoming to the many sites we manage and host; to prevent DDOS attacks; to implement robust security mechanisms with the WAF and many other rules it provides; and to provide fast responses to the frontend site users through cached assets in the CDN.

Our devops team uses Cloudflare for many purposes to help manage our clients websites and products.
We make extensive use of the DNS product to manage a lot of our clients' DNS records.
The DDOS prevention mechanisms have stopped many attacks going to our high profile customers and we were able to add our own custom rules to prevent other issues caused by bots.
The CDN feature is caching successfully all the HTML and assets requests to our clients' websites and prevents majority of the requests from ever reaching the backend servers.

DDoS protection is key for any business operations when connected to the internet, which we all are. It absorbs malicious traffic through Cloudflare's network before it impacts the company servers.

This in conjunction with Zero Trust Security is hugely beneficial for companies like ours which hold a serious amount of personal HIIPA data.

I am a partner manager for Cloudflare and I work at an IT consultancy and Systems Integration company group that takes care of working on our customer's systems.

We have been using and reccomending Cloudflare to our customers and have made proposals in the past for names such as [...], [...] Italy and others and we have also guided our customers to use the Cloudflare solutions managed by the vendors directly (shopify, salesforce commerce cloud).

The use case is mainly e-commerce solutions but we also have had security and DNS focused use cases

Cloudflare is well priced and is based on a solid tech stack so it's well suited when customers are in a pinch and want control of their delivery network and security
A well suited scenario would be e-commerce websites which we mainly deal with but i'm eager to understand better also the security aspects of the Cloudflare offering
In terms of cloud / PaaS / IaaS i find it lacking when compared to other public cloud solution providers

In our organization, we are using Cloudflare for multiple purposes such as
1. For Content Delivery as a CDN
2. For DDoS protection and for threat analytics
3. For traffic forwarding using CloudFlare workers
4. For DNS management
5. For Bot management
6. For certificate management
7. For SSL verification

Pros

The best part is the content delivery network. Cloudflare has a large network of data centres around the world that helps cache and delivers content quickly to our customers.
Cloudflare offers us with a fast and reliable DNS service and with the world class features such as Cloudflare workers, SSL verification, certificate management and web application firewall. When all of these are combined together, it provides very strict security for our organization.
One of the most important feature that we use is the analytics and threat detection. It provides us with the real time insights of all the threats originating from multiple locations and landing on our websites.

Cons

Over time, I have come to the conclusion that CloudFront is sometimes a little bit slow when it is trying to verify the SSL. We use it on our webpage for SSL verification and when we access it from mobile, we see it takes a little more time for SSL verification.
Cloudflare's extensive feature set can be overwhelming for new users. When I first worked on it, there were a lot of features shown on the dashboards and I had no idea about those. Streamlining the user interface and simplifying the setup process could help improve the experience for non technical users.
The pricing for Cloudflare is a little bit complex and sometimes hard to follow.

Likelihood to Recommend

Based on my experience, Cloudflare is well-suited for high-traffic websites and probably e-commerce platforms. Cloudflare can mitigate the risk of attacks on these websites using WAF and DNS protection mechanisms and provide cached content to the end-users quickly. The websites where it is not suitable are those that need high security and compliance requirements as Cloudflare might not meet all those criteria.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Cloudflare to assist in mitigating a number of attacks my web server came under. In that respect, Cloudflare has made my life simpler. I also utilize Cloudflare's domain name registrar offerings which offer domain names at cost, which is hard to beat. Not sure what I would do without them at this point.

Cons

The renewal date on domain name registrations needs to be specific about the day in which it will automatically renew a domain and ding your bank account. I've had it put me in the negative when not watching the bank account too closely. As a result, I've had to just disable the auto renew feature on upcoming domains to avoid any surprises.

Likelihood to Recommend

For a simple WordPress site, depending on where and how it is hosted, Cloudflare might be a bit overkill. You can say the same for someone who only has a domain or two they are looking to park, again, Cloudflare would be overkill in that area as well.

Cloudflare offers so much in their freemium plan that it seems too good to be true and to me honestly that has been their best selling point. Our customers absolutely amazed by how much it improves their website and how well it behaves once behind CDN and solid caching, just by using the free version.

The price is so great even free version
