Cisco Embedded Wireless Controller (EWC) on Catalyst Access Points is a software-based wireless controller integrated directly into Cisco Catalyst 9100 series access points, designed to deliver enterprise-class Wi-Fi 6 connectivity without the need for a dedicated controller appliance. It simplifies deployment and management for small to midsize and distributed enterprise networks by running the controller function on one access point (active AP) that manages other subordinate APs, while also serving clients itself. The EWC supports up to 100 access points and 2,000 clients in a single deployment, providing scalability suitable for multi-site enterprises and branch offices.
