Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN is primarily used by organizations to establish and manage network connectivity across distributed environments, including branches, data centers, and cloud. In TrustRadius reviews, users highlight its ability to centralize network management, which streamlines operations and allows for standardized configurations across scaling networks. The platform is also recognized for simplifying WAN spoke deployments and enhancing network stability through robust routing capabilities and branch redundancy.
Reviewers frequently report significant cost reductions, with 4 out of 7 reviewers noting substantial annual savings and reduced telecom expenses by leveraging dual internet connections. However, a notable area for improvement is the User Interface and configuration experience, with users mentioning difficulties with template management and system responsiveness. Challenges related to routing and failover handling were also noted. Overall, reviewers find the product delivers strong ROI through financial savings and improved operational efficiency, despite some usability concerns.
Pros
Centralized network management for standardized operations and efficient configuration.
Simplified and efficient deployments, particularly for WAN spokes.
Significant cost reductions by leveraging dual internet connections and reducing telecom expenses.
Enhanced operational efficiency through increased automation and centralized control.
Improved network stability, resilience, and branch redundancy.
Cons
User Interface and configuration difficulties, including template management.
Challenges with system responsiveness.
Issues related to routing and failover handling, such as network transitions and route leaking.
We implemented Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN about 2 years ago for our customer, the product support and technical expertise was great. Before deciding to go ahead with the Cisco solution, we tested many vendors and use cases and we found Cisco as the best overall option and more robust. We were able to migrate the customer WAN solution to utilize internet connectivity.
Pros
Supports complex solutions
Cons
Continue evolving with the new WAN and Fabric solutions

Great support

We use it to interconnect our branches and steer traffic over the best path from one branch to another or from the branch to the headquarter. And also maximize our, I mean, not maximize, but have less expenses on the transport we use because some stuff it's cheaper to send over the internet. Others, it's cheaper to send over the MPLS and there lot the variations there. And this is where Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN is the one actually helps us out because some traffic also can be sent straight to the cloud and just do not use expensive circuits.
Pros
The initial setup and building the whole infrastructure. It's like this.
Cons
I would think app based routing and I think that is app based that would need more improving and more apps to be identified and actually to be able to make decisions based on those apps and those apps.

The best case, what I recommend to others and to clients to use is Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN one for is the case when you have a huge number of branches or small offices or remote offices, you name it. Even home offices, you have a large number and you want this whole infrastructure to be extremely easy to set up and also to have everything almost the same, not to have deviations from the standard configuration. This is the sweet spot for introducing Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN.

Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN is well suited in multi site offices. This works well for us with over 480 remote sites connecting back to a secure data centre. Less appropriate scenarios would be for small businesses with not many remote branches, limited budgets, or resources. They may not want to invest in such a complex environment. Cisco have Meraki options that would suit better.

Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN centralizes network management and simplifies configurations. It's used to optimize bandwidth and lowers expenses, also used to prioritizes critical applications for our customers like video conferencing and VoIP. Zero-touch provisioning is also used in some cases. The solution connects multiple metro locations nationwide with potential for expansion.
Pros
secure connections to AWS, Azure, and other cloud providers, simplifying access to cloud applications.
Prioritizes business-critical applications like voice and video
Real-time analytics and monitoring
Cons
Improved interoperability with other vendors' devices
For me, the automatically implemented load balance between the different Internet providers, as well as the monitoring of the lines themselves are one of the biggest advantages of the Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Infrastructure. Template-based system-wide management also facilitates device configuration and troubleshooting. The configuration of the remote offices is templated and possible changes are easily scaled.
Pros
Template-based configuration
Load-balance between ISPs
Overview of the entire WAN infrastructure
Cons
Renaming the names of the objects
Integration with other Cisco SD products
Better monitoring
Likelihood to Recommend
Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN is well suited for a transition from old DMVPN/FlexVPN networks to modern stuff. The more devices you have to manage, the easier and nicer they are to configure. Of course, for small installations, with up to 10-20 routers, it might not make a lot of sense.

With the Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN fabric in our environment, we are really happy with how that simplified WAN network is used for troubleshooting and onboarding new devices and migrating the acquired sites. Cisco SDWAN is more comprehensive compared to other vendors. What we are expecting Cisco should improve the unexpected behavior problems that occur for the customers. With Cisco SDWAN, we no longer need to care about circuit types and public IPs.
Pros
Share internet IP subnet and no worry about IP
Simple to connect the sites
Templates made easy to onboard a site in few minutes
Best QOE
Application aware routing excellent
Cons
Moritoring and alerting
NAT for VPN
More simpler creating HuB and spoke
