We have deployed ISE company wide in a default deny environment. We use these in specific locations for control systems where environment is harsh. Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series Switches Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have a lot of field devices that requires industrial ethernet infrastructure for just the extreme temperatures that we use out on the East Coast. We deploy these in a number of our LCP cabinets out in various spots in the field.

Pros

  • We're extremely proud of the IE3300s. We actually put them up on the cranes as well and with all the movement of the cranes, they're very sturdy and durable. We have not had issues at all with them.

Cons

  • We would love to see 10 gig ports as well as 10 gig uplinks. That's our biggest issue with that device.

Return on Investment

  • Just the scalability portion of it has just made it easier for us to add those modules versus buying more switches.

IE-3300 Switch Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use these switches as a intermediary between a firewall and end devices. It solves the problem of multiple devices connecting to a central switch and allowing traffic through the firewall.

Pros

  • The size is compact and fits where we install these devices.
  • The CLI commands are quick and informative.

Cons

  • Software updates; not as informative on how to perform software updates. Could be more informative and explain on the switch.

Most Important Features

  • Uptime and robustness; the device should not fail in most scenarios.

Return on Investment

  • Neutral; the device itself performs as intended and provides as a central point for traffic.
