We use the NCS 5000 to deliver bandwidth to applications such as Video Conferencing. Our entire organization uses the NCS 5000 and now in the days of covid it has become instrumental to delivering an elastic environment to our end users. The NCS 5000 was implemented before the days of covid but has proven to be the right decision.
Pros
Prioritize high bandwidth devices such as video conferencing.
Versatility for use with cloud applications.
Cons
Pricing is the first thing that comes to mind.
Ease of use, we required professional services to implement and for major changes.
Likelihood to Recommend
The best scenario for us was to use the NCS 5000 for video conferencing. With several remote branches, we required reliable bandwidth for remotely connecting with employees. The NCS 5000 delivered the bandwidth we needed and provided the quality even with some low bandwidth sites.

This device will most likely be playing the role of a "leaf", due to it's higher port density. The device is designed to provide higher port density, meaning, more ports, higher bandwidth available as an edge device. As the demand for high bandwidth ports increases, this device will be useful in both providing connectivity to the customer as well as uplink to the core.
Pros
Higher port density allows for both higher bandwidth ports to the customer network as well as sufficient uplink capacity to the core.
Small rack space, smarter design, smaller footprint allows for more hardware the fit in the same amount of rack space.
Lower power consumption, less heat output results in savings within the data center environment.
Cons
Increased backwards compatibility would allow for more existing or older hardware to be installed within the new chassis if physically possible.
Streamlined OS upgrades, and the NCS have taken steps to avoid having the reload the entire device when upgrading software, but can be further improved.
Continued upgrades to hardware results in longer shelf life for the chassis, allowing less frequent purchases and upgrades.
Likelihood to Recommend
This device appears to be better suited on the edge of networks and less capable as a core device. It is very suitable to provide high bandwidth connectivity to the customer networks as well as providing adequate bandwidth to the core network.
