Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We first used Brown Paper Tickets for our 1st Annual Beer & Cheer brew fest event in 2016 and it worked out great. Once you get the hang of setting up an event and setting the prices for the tickets, it's pretty self-explanatory on how to complete it. It's also very easy to order hard copy tickets (for a small fee) if you would like them to have on hand as well. I found this helpful for sending blocks of tickets to big sponsors.

At our non-profit, we do a lot of free trainings and most other ticket services charge a per transaction fee, even if you're not charging the attendee to come. We use Brown Paper Tickets for these events now because there is no fee to use it if the ticket cost is "free".

One issue we've had with Brown Paper Tickets is their accounting reports. They are not very clear and concise when it comes to itemizing the fees and expenses. This is one of the major reasons we've switched to Qgiv for our ticketing/events registration - they have a much better reporting system. However, we will continue to use Brown Paper Tickets for our free training registrations.

Pros

  • Hard copy tickets. They make it very easy to customize and order hard copy tickets for your events.
  • Ease of event setup.
  • Good customer service

Cons

  • Accounting Reports. They are not very concise.

Likelihood to Recommend

For non-profits running free trainings, Brown Paper Ticket is great because there are no fees for using the service for this, whereas most other event registration software charges a per transaction fee.

I wouldn't recommend it if you are hosting a conference or other event where there are breakout sessions that you need to register people for.
