Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Symantec Email Threat Dectection and Response is used to filter incoming and outgoing mail traffic from Office 365 exchange. Our company use to have a challenge with users sharing sensitive information via email and since the implementation of the Symantec email threat detection tool we had no occurrences of such information passing inbound or outbound.

Pros

  • Detect credit numbers being shared via email
  • flagged email domains of known spammers
  • scanning attachments prior to releasing to the email user

Cons

  • I would like to see a mobile app that shows a dashboard of some sort
  • reduce to occurance of false positives
  • extended integration with 3rd party email clients

  • Less outage due to malicious email
  • increase productivity of end user
  • safer computing environment

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using Symantec Endpoint, now Broadcom for 11+ years. We install the client locally on all school-owned and as many student computers as possible. We have been less successful in that regard as we would like and are currently investigating a migration to a different true EDR product.

Pros

  • Excellent integration with other Symantec products
  • E-mail notification in case of an incident
  • Excellent customer support

Cons

  • Adding malicious sources taking time
  • Reporting function is very basic
  • Symantec ATP has no integration with Symantec ETDAD.

  • ATP can be used by any one with basic IT knowledge

Return on Investment

  • Integration with ETDAD will make Symantec ATP more powerful for future AD threats
  • Implemeting Symantec ATP was easy and took little time
