Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use this DFMA software in the early stages of product design, mostly at the concept phase, in order to make the best selections possible early on. It's a potent tool for encouraging collaborative and inventive product design.

Pros

  • Cost optimization.
  • VA/VE, Cost reduction.
  • Part simplification.
  • Product optimization in early phases of design.

Cons

  • High skills required.
  • Not easy to learn for beginners.
  • Trainings requirement.
  • High cost.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is best suited for the early phases in product design where we can optimize the cost of the product. Also, it is best for value aided, value engineering & cost reduction activities, etc.

DFMA for ambitious product optimization

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Working with my customers to implement DFMA(r) at customer site.
Give the facilitators the necessary skills to lead a multi-functional VAVE team and organize the basic process for interaction between concept specialists, leading engineers and manufacturing experts.
For using DFMA mainly during concept phase (also for acquisition projects) to make the right decisions in the
early phase.

Pros

  • Provide detailed cost estimation in the concept phase (with or without CAD data).
  • Provides detailed cost estimation down to the process level in a comprehensible way.
  • Supports project teams with hints for product simplification.
  • Assists industrial engineers with cost and process assumptions for part manufacturing such as die casting, injection molding, hot forming, machining, investment casting, sand casting, sintering technology, sheet metal cutting, stamping and forming, forging, printed circuit board assembly, extrusion of plastics and metals, manual and automatic assembly... and many secondary operations such as welding, bonding, etc...
  • Enables cost engineers to document their own know-how for use in the concept phase for early optimization / frontloading.

Cons

  • Needs some training. Not for absolute dummies.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you want to lead a project team through the process of cost optimization from concept until SOP you will find a huge portfolio of processes and hints for cost improvement. Effects like simplification are the base - additionally hints for the search of costdrivers are given. It is an optimal toolset for value engineers, design engineers or cost engineers.
